The Welsh-edition Sorbonne lectures (1949-52) contain MP's earliest sustained articulation of structure as immanent self-organization, without the post-1954 vocabulary of institution or Stiftung. The cardinal formulation at ch. 3 §IV (printed p. 150; locator corrected 2026-07-27 — the former "p. 167" read the raw {167} PDF marker as a folio; the CPP marker-to-folio offset is +16, corroborated by the volume's index, "Gestaltists … 150"): "Structuration is an order which is not added onto material conditions, but which is immanent within it and which realizes itself through the spontaneous organization of the material." The chapter 7 reformulation (line 5256): "The 'gestalt' is an order that spontaneously establishes itself through the interaction of elements without any preestablished destiny." Both name a self-organization that is not innate, not imposed, not caused, but immanent and effective — precisely the structural claim that institution / Stiftung (1954–55) will universalize across history, sedimentation, and culture.

Counterpressure / Limits

Institution adds genuinely new ingredients (history, culture, cross-generational sedimentation) that the developmental concept of spontaneous structuration may not strictly entail. The genealogy is doctrinal but not a strict identity. Institution universalizes spontaneous structuration; it does not merely re-articulate it.
The vocabulary differs. Spontaneous structuration is gestalt-derived; institution is Husserl-derived (Urstiftung, Nachstiftung, Stiftung).
