Claim
Heidegger's well-known deconstruction of animal rationale in the Letter on Humanism (1946) and Einführung in die Metaphysik (1935) — the rejection of the "zoological" definition of man, the polemic against biologism — leaves intact, and indeed aggravates, a residual humanism in the 1929/30 Grundbegriffe der Metaphysik triad: stone weltlos (worldless), animal weltarm (poor in world), man weltbildend (world-forming). The animal "has a relation to the sun, it feels the warmth of the sun or the light of the sun, but has no relation to the sun as such." The triad is more humanist than the animal rationale it claims to deconstruct, because it aggravates the human/animal limit in the very gesture of refusing the metaphysical-zoological definition of man. Heidegger's anti-humanism does not see itself. Derrida (BS-I S13 pp. 346–347): "it's because he wants to accentuate, aggravate, sharpen this limit between the animal and human ... that, on the one hand, he criticizes, or deconstructs ... the metaphysical tradition that makes man an animal rationale and that, on the other hand, he aggravates the distinction between the animal and the human." This is a structural feature of the Heideggerian anti-humanism, not a remediable lacuna.
Evidence
- derrida-2001-bete-souverain-i S13 pp. 346–347 — the cardinal Derridean diagnosis. Extraction-note Pass 2a argument #39 (verified 2026-06-01; corrected from a mislabelled "#22").
- derrida-2001-bete-souverain-i S11 pp. 279–280 — the structural Heideggerian gap: Sein und Zeit triad Dasein / Zuhandensein / Vorhandensein cannot accommodate either the dead body or the living animal. Extraction-note BS-I Connections locus (S11 pp. 279–280; the Sein und Zeit gap), independently re-attested in BS-II argument #33 (verified 2026-06-01; corrected from a mislabelled "#16").
- Heidegger, Grundbegriffe der Metaphysik: Welt — Endlichkeit — Einsamkeit (1929/30 lectures, Gesamtausgabe 29/30) — the weltarm / weltbildend / weltlos triad. Cited by Derrida BS-I S13 pp. 346–347; not yet a primary source on the wiki (BS-II 2002–2003 will engage this directly).
- Heidegger, Über den Humanismus (1947) / Letter on Humanism — the explicit anti-biologism polemic that the weltarm triad apparently contradicts. Cited by Derrida BS-I S12 pp. 322–324.
- martin-heidegger entity page — BS-I addition records both the Sein und Zeit gap and the aggravated weltarm humanism.
Counterpressure / Limits
- The Heideggerian defense: a Heideggerian reader could reply that weltarm is not a humanist privileging but a structural-phenomenological claim about world-disclosure; the animal is "poor" only relative to the world-question (the Frage nach dem Sinn von Sein), not lesser in some moral or anthropological-essentialist sense. The triad describes different modes of world-disclosure, not a hierarchy. Derrida's reading would then be misreading the structural register as ethical.
- BS-II strengthens via cross-decade philological argument: BS-II (2026-05-27) delivers the deferred full reading of weltarm / weltbildend / weltlos and adds a philological strengthening: the Sterben/Verenden distinction (animal cannot die; only Dasein dies) is restated word-for-word in "Das Ding" (1950) and continues through Identität und Differenz (1957) — a thirty-year stable doctrinal commitment. See claims#heidegger-animal-doctrine-cross-decade-stable (candidate, 2026-05-27) for the dedicated philological claim. The cross-decade durability strengthens the aggravated-humanism diagnosis: this is not a youthful Heideggerian slip but a sustained commitment Heidegger never revoked.
- The Agamben-comparative question: Agamben in The Open: Man and Animal (2002, contemporaneous with BS-I) also engages Heidegger's weltarm / weltbildend / weltlos triad. The two readings (Derrida's "aggravated humanism" vs. Agamben's "anthropological machine") are independent and adjacent; their relation is open.
- The reading is single-source: BS-I is currently the wiki's sole anchor for the claim. Corroboration from other Heidegger-readers (Agamben The Open; Calarco; Atterton; the contemporary critical-animal-studies literature on Heidegger) is needed for promotion beyond candidate.
- The internal-Heideggerian counter: the 1936–38 Beiträge zur Philosophie (not yet on the wiki) deepens the Seyn-question in ways that further complicate the weltarm triad; a Heideggerian could reply that the 1936+ Ereignis-thinking moves beyond the 1929/30 frame, so the "aggravated humanism" critique applies only to a specific moment.
Payoff
- Without the claim: the wiki's martin-heidegger page records BS-I's critique as a contrastive-note but does not have a thesis-form anchor for the aggravated humanism diagnosis; the relation to existing claims about Heidegger (claims#mp-heidegger-reception-archivally-thin, claims#indirect-ontology-blondel-not-heidegger, claims#cybernetic-vollendung-1964-anchor) remains scattered.
- With the claim: the wiki has a thesis-form anchor for the animal-side companion to its existing critique of "the Heideggerian turn"; the BS-II ingest (when it happens) has a wiki-claim to corroborate or modify; the future Agamben The Open ingest has a wiki-claim to negotiate against.
- For zoo-and-asylum: the Heidegger-gap thesis connects to the 1681 elephant-cadaver scene (the cadaver has no place in the Heideggerian triad); the weltarm aggravated humanism thesis extends to the seminar's broader analysis of the human/animal threshold across wolf-and-werewolf, betise, marionette.
- For derrida-2001-bete-souverain-i: the seminar's deep correction of Heideggerian anti-humanism is one of BS-I's most original moves, and a claim-form anchor stabilizes the reading.
Status History
- 2026-05-27 — created at candidate at BS-I ingest. Three-test gate partial: (T1) contestable — yes, the Heideggerian structural-phenomenological defense is non-trivial. (T2) anchored in BS-I extraction-note Pass 2a #22 (S13 pp. 346–347) and Pass 2a #16 (S11 pp. 279–280). (T3) counterpressure recorded (Heideggerian defense; deferred to BS-II; Agamben comparative; single-source; Beiträge-period internal). Held at candidate per user adjudication (2026-05-27 ingest plan); promotion to live deferred until either BS-II ingest, Agamben The Open ingest, or secondary Heidegger-animal scholarship corroborates. Phase 8 audit candidate.
- 2026-06-01 — promoted candidate→live (audit Phase 8, 17th run; user pre-authorization for promotions). The stated deferral condition — "until either BS-II ingest, Agamben The Open, or secondary scholarship" — is met: BS-II (
derrida-2002-bete-souverain-ii) is now ingested and independently strengthens the thesis via (a) the cross-decade philological argument (see claims#heidegger-animal-doctrine-cross-decade-stable, promoted live the same run) and (b) an independent BS-II attestation — argument #23, the "secret aggravation of the weltarm doctrine" via the Novalis/Aristotle Schwermut exclusion. 3-test re-confirmed by an independentclaim-promotion-reviewersubagent. Citation-label hygiene fixes applied per General Rule 16 (Evidence #1 #22→#39; Evidence #2 Sein und Zeit-gap anchor relabelled to the BS-I Connections locus + BS-II arg #33 cross-attestation). Held belowsupported: the supported-deferral (a third independent path — e.g. Agamben The Open — corroborating) remains unmet.
<!-- CR-019 hold-reasoning for the remaining 6 under-claimed HUB motifs (not promoted to candidates this run):
- fire/ignition/spark/flame/foyer — motifs.md HUB present but cross-source attestations are descriptive-thematic across MP / Heidegger / Carbone; no single corrective or genealogical thesis emerges that would survive the candidate bar.
- Ge-Viert (Fourfold) — motifs.md HUB documents the GA 11 Beilage's "suppressed-correction" reading (Ge-Viert revoking the Mensch-Sein dyad of the published Identitätsvortrag); a candidate would need to be specifically the "suppressed-correction" thesis, but this is already substantively captured under claims#ga11-austrag-as-wesensherkunft-of-onto-theo-logik live, so a separate claim would duplicate.
- Brauch/Gebrauch — motifs.md HUB present, but the wiki's brauch concept page already does the structural work; no thesis-grade claim has emerged that distinguishes from concept-page treatment.
- Vergessenheit der Differenz — motifs.md HUB present; cross-corroborates claims#ga11-austrag-as-wesensherkunft-of-onto-theo-logik live; standalone claim would duplicate.
- Widerspruch (vs MP écart cross-claim) — already substantively named by claims#circulus-vitiosus-deus-mp-ontology-of-ontology supported (per motifs.md Widerspruch entry; Chouraqui 2014 Conclusion 2306–2330 reads the circulus figure as the architectural figure for "the shared circularity of self-falsification (Nietzsche) and chiasm (MP)"); the Widerspruch ↔ MP écart cross-tradition register is already claim-anchored.
- survol / pensée de survol — motifs.md HUB is anti-survol-as-MP's-target across his entire career; the Wiki home pensee-de-survol is already developed as full HUB concept page with What-the-Concept-Does / What-It-Rejects / Stakes / Problem-Space sections; the structural work is done at concept-page level, no thesis-grade claim emerges that the concept page does not already articulate. -->
