Claim
In Heidegger's 1964 essay "Das Ende der Philosophie und die Aufgabe des Denkens," marginal note 27 (Handexemplar) on GA 14 p. 87 retroactively re-anchors the Sein und Zeit Seinsfrage: SuZ's question was always verkürzt — abbreviated — because what SuZ asked was not yet "where does the ontological difference come from?" but only "what is the difference?" The 1964 essay supplies the longer form: the Seinsfrage is properly "the question of the origin of the ontological difference." This is more pointed than the standard "Heidegger turned from Dasein-analytic to Sein-thinking" narrative — it specifies that the ontological-difference register itself depends on a prior origin (the Aletheia-Lichtung), and that the destinal sending (Geschick) is the manner in which that origin gives the difference. The synthetic claim: the wiki's ontological-difference page should treat the difference as itself dependent on a prior origin (Aletheia-Lichtung), and the seinsgeschichte page should treat the destinal sending as the manner in which that origin gives the difference.
Evidence
- heidegger-1964-end-of-philosophy — Handexemplar marginal note 27 at GA 14 p. 87 (Heidegger's own marginalia retro-coding the SuZ question). Anchored in extraction-note Pass 2a + Pass 2c marginalia tracking. The marginalia is one of 30 such Handexemplar notes; the 27 specifically re-articulates the Seinsfrage as origin-of-ontological-difference.
- heidegger-1964-end-of-philosophy — the body text supports the marginalia: GA 14 pp. 87–88 develop the Lichtung-grants-both-truth-and-untruth thesis, which articulates the origin-register the marginal-27 names. The marginalia and the body text are coordinate.
- Cross-reference to claims#aletheia-wahrheit-1964-self-correction (candidate, 2026-05-04): the same essay's self-correction on Aletheia/Wahrheit (GA 14 p. 87) is the companion move — the SuZ-identification of Aletheia with Wahrheit was wrong, and the 1964 longer-form Seinsfrage is what the corrected articulation enables.
Counterpressure / Limits
- Handexemplar marginalia are Heidegger's own self-redescription. Treating marginal 27 as authoritative for wiki-architecture is a non-trivial move — a more conservative reading would treat the marginalia as an editorial marker rather than as a doctrinal correction. The claim accepts the Handexemplar self-redescription; the question of whether SuZ's original articulation can bear the longer-form retroactively is not settled.
- The companion claim (claims#aletheia-wahrheit-1964-self-correction candidate) supplies the negative half (Aletheia is not Wahrheit), while the present claim supplies the positive half (the Seinsfrage is properly origin-of-ontological-difference). The two are entangled: accepting one without the other is unstable. Either both should be promoted together (as a 1964 self-redescription cluster), or both should be held at candidate until the cluster's wiki-wide consequence is adjudicated.
- Wiki-wide implication is non-trivial. Adopting marginal-27's longer-form Seinsfrage as authoritative would require revisiting ontological-difference (the page must now treat the difference as origin-dependent rather than as a primary structure) and seinsgeschichte (which gains a destinal-sending-as-grant-of-the-difference reading). The claim is load-bearing if accepted: it changes the wiki's architectural reading of late Heidegger.
- Single-source ingest. The claim rests on the 1964 essay alone; it has not yet been tested against the Bestimmung der Sache des Denkens manuscript (GA 80, marginal cross-reference in the 1964 essay) which apparently develops the same matter, nor against Zeit und Sein (1962, GA 14 pp. 3–30, the immediate companion piece).
Payoff
If accepted, the claim re-grounds ontological-difference as itself derivative — the difference is not a primary structure but is granted by the Aletheia-Lichtung prior origin. The seinsgeschichte page gains a destinal-sending reading on which sending is the manner in which origin gives difference. For MP-Heidegger material on the wiki, the claim is significant because MP's late ontology engages Heidegger's pre-1964 articulation of Unverborgenheit and the SuZ-Seinsfrage; whether MP anticipates the 1964 longer-form is a live cross-source question. Connects to claims#mp-heidegger-reception-archivally-thin (supported, 2026-05-05): the wiki's MP-Heidegger reception thinness extends to whether MP anticipates Heidegger's own 1964 self-redescriptions — a question the wiki has not yet settled.

candidate(Phase 8 twelfth run) from the heidegger-1964-end-of-philosophy extraction-note Pass 3 Part D candidate #2. The 3-test gate is partially open: (1) the longer-form Seinsfrage claim is contestable against the standard Dasein-Sein-turn narrative; (2) anchored in marginal 27 at GA 14 p. 87 + body-text pp. 87–88 (extraction-note Pass 2a + Pass 2c); (3) Counterpressure documents the Handexemplar-self-redescription concern, the companion-claim entanglement, the wiki-wide implication, and the single-source dependence. Promotion toliverequires either (a) ingestion of Bestimmung der Sache des Denkens (GA 80) or Zeit und Sein (GA 14 pp. 3–30) to corroborate the 1964 longer-form articulation, (b) a third-party Heidegger scholar (Polt, Davis, Sheehan) engaging the marginal-27 self-redescription's wiki-wide consequence, or (c) joint-promotion-with-companion-claim treatment under a cluster-promotion rule (which CLAUDE.md does not currently support, so this would be a maintainer-level decision). Held atcandidaterather thanlivebecause the marginalia-as-authoritative-for-architecture move is non-trivial and the companion-claim aletheia-wahrheit-1964-self-correction also remains atcandidate.
