MP's diacritical ontology, as Kaushik articulates it, is not an alternative form of ontological difference but a circumvention of it
ID: diacritical-ontology-circumvents-ontological-difference Title: MP's diacritical ontology, as Kaushik articulates it, is not an alternative form of ontological difference but a circumvention of it Status: live Confidence: medium Claim type: structural-parallel / corrective Created: 2026-05-07 Updated: 2026-05-24 Sources: mendoza-canales-2026-institution-ontology-politics, kaushik-2021-negation-implex, kaushik-2019-matrixed-ontology Wiki homes: ecart, ontological-difference, matrixed-ontology, indirect-ontology
Claim
Per Kaushik's reading (M-C 2026 Ch 7), MP's diacritical ontology — articulated through écart, implex, the symbolic matrix, and the diacritical structure of V&I's late working notes — is not an alternative form of Heideggerian ontological difference but a circumvention of it. Where ontological difference operates by contrastive distinction between Being and beings (with Being as the horizon-of-intelligibility against which beings appear), diacritical ontology operates by internal differentiation through which beings differentiate themselves relationally without first depending on a separate Being-register. The implex names the diacritical-figure of negation: differentiation by what is not rather than by what is the horizon for. The claim is corrective because it refuses the standard Heideggerian framing under which MP would be "another late phenomenology of Being." MP's late ontology is not operating in the ontological-difference register — it is operating in a different register that the wiki tracks under indirect-ontology and matrixed-ontology.
Evidence
- mendoza-canales-2026-institution-ontology-politics — Kaushik, Ch 7 §1–§4 (raw line 2984, fn 12 line 3034). The cardinal articulation of the circumvention reading.
- kaushik-2021-negation-implex — Kaushik's prior monograph develops the implex as the diacritical-negation figure; the cross-text foundation for the M-C 2026 chapter.
- kaushik-2019-matrixed-ontology — Kaushik's earlier monograph on the symbolic matrix as ontological tissue prior to formal ontology; structurally cognate.
- Cross-corroborates with claims#indirect-ontology-blondel-not-heidegger (supported, 2026-05-05): if MP's late ontology genealogy runs through Blondel rather than Heidegger, then operating in the ontological-difference register (which is Heideggerian) is structurally inconsistent with MP's actual genealogy. The diacritical-circumvention reading is the positive content of what indirect-ontology-as-non-Heideggerian operates as.
- ecart page §"MSME 1953 diacritique extension" documents the early-anchor for the diacritical register (1953 MSME) — earlier than the Heideggerian-engagement window (1958–61).
Counterpressure / Limits
- Single-author dependency. Kaushik's reading depends on his M-C 2026 Ch 7 + Kaushik 2021 + Kaushik 2019. The convergence is one author across three works.
- Heidegger ingest cluster (2026-05) is in
raw/. Direct comparison of MP's diacritical register with Heideggerian ontological difference is now possible via the Heidegger ingest cluster (1961 Nietzsche I/II + 1964 End of Philosophy); but the comparison is not yet performed systematically. The cross-source verification is available but not exercised. - The "circumvention" reading is corrective and contestable. Standard readings of late MP (e.g., Dastur, Greisch, certain Anglophone Heidegger-MP scholars) take MP's late ontology as a parallel-but-distinct development of ontological difference. The strong circumvention reading (MP is not even operating in the ontological-difference register) is sharper than the parallel-distinction reading.
- Tension with the existing ontological-difference page's cross-author treatment. The wiki's ontological-difference page tracks Heidegger's articulation; whether MP's diacritical-écart structure is an ontological-difference variant or circumvents the framing is the unresolved interpretive question.
Payoff
If supportable, the claim re-positions MP's late ontology decisively against the Heideggerian-inflection reading. Combined with claims#indirect-ontology-blondel-not-heidegger (supported) + claims#mp-heidegger-reception-archivally-thin (supported) + claims#topology-from-piaget-not-heidegger-not-lacan (live): four corrective-genealogical claims cohere into a robust de-Heideggerianizing of MP's late ontology — Blondel for the indirect-ontological genealogy, Brunschvicg-Biran-Renouvier for the broader structural genealogy, Piaget for the topology, and Kaushik's circumvention reading for the diacritical-écart register. The claim opens the matrixed-ontology and diacritical-écart registers as positively non-Heideggerian contributions to philosophy of being.
Status History
- 2026-05-07 — created as
candidate(Phase 8 tenth run) after re-evaluation of the 9 deferred M-C corrective claims from the ninth run. Statuscandidaterather thanlivebecause: (a) intra-Kaushik convergence is one author across three works (M-C 2026 Ch 7 + Kaushik 2021 + Kaushik 2019); (b) systematic comparison with Heidegger ingest cluster not yet performed (the cross-source verification is available but not exercised); (c) the strong circumvention reading is contestable against the parallel-distinction reading; (d) tension with the standard reading of late MP as continuing Heideggerian ontology of being. Promotion toliverequires (a) targeted comparison of MP's diacritical register with Heideggerian ontological-difference using the Heidegger ingest cluster (Heidegger 1961 / 1964) — performable now that those texts are inraw/, or (b) corroborating secondary reading of the circumvention thesis outside Kaushik's own work. - 2026-05-24 — promoted to live under CR-013. The 3-test gate passes: (1) Contestability — the strong circumvention reading is contestable against (a) the parallel-distinction reading (Dastur, Greisch, certain Anglophone Heidegger-MP scholars) on which MP's late ontology continues Heideggerian ontology of being, and (b) the standard reception that takes MP's diacritical-écart as an inflection of ontological difference rather than a circumvention. (2) Evidence traceability — Mendoza-Canales ed. 2026 Ch 7 (Kaushik) raw line 2984, fn 12 line 3034 anchored; Kaushik 2021 Negation and the Implex + Kaushik 2019 Matrixed Ontology anchored as the cross-text foundation; ecart page §"MSME 1953 diacritique extension" anchored for the 1953 MSME early-anchor (which dates the diacritical register earlier than MP's Heidegger-engagement window 1958-61, supporting the genealogical-distinctness side of the argument). (3) Counterpressure recorded — four distinct CPs (single-author / intra-Kaushik convergence; Heidegger-cluster-comparison-not-exercised; circumvention-vs-parallel-distinction sharpness; tension with standard reception). The original 2026-05-07 hold was based on the live-gate-blocker reading of single-source dependence; under CR-013's review, single-secondary-source dependence is recategorized as a supported-grade concern, not a live-grade blocker — and the cross-corroboration with claims#indirect-ontology-blondel-not-heidegger (supported, 2026-05-05), claims#mp-heidegger-reception-archivally-thin (supported, 2026-05-05), and claims#topology-from-piaget-not-heidegger-not-lacan (live) supplies a coherent de-Heideggerianizing cluster within which the diacritical-circumvention reading is coordinate. Status changes from candidate to live; confidence preserved at medium.
