Transtemporality and Ineinander as Register-Pair Extensions of Institution

Claim
Transtemporality and Ineinander are structurally parallel extensions of institution operating in distinct registers — transtemporality in the temporal-architectural register (institution-as-event held across time as a plane of coherent coexistence of heterogeneous temporalities, per Décarie-Daigneault 2024 + IP p. 3 "institution in its nascent state"), Ineinander in the ontological-topological register (institution generalized into a principle coextensive with Being, per claims#ineinander-universalizes-institution). Both make structurally identical rejection-substitute-grounding moves: (i) reject a dichotomy that posits two terms first and then asks how to fuse or survey them (transtemporality rejects intemporal-preservation-vs-presentist-reduction; Ineinander rejects intuitive-coincidence-vs-reflective-overview); (ii) substitute a positive coherent-coexistence-on-a-plane topology that holds heterogeneous terms together without reduction (transtemporality's "coherent coexistence of multiple heterogeneous temporalities on a single plane"; Ineinander's "two terms already one-inside-the-other before any operation of fusion or survey"); (iii) ground a universalization of institution's phenomenological insight within their register, enabling ethical-hermeneutic agency-within-instituted-dimensions (transtemporality's vivre selon; Ineinander's vie du lien). The pair is a register-pair: each does in its register what the other does in its own, with chiasm sitting as the third term that both pages independently cite (transtemporality "is a temporal cognate of chiasm"; Ineinander "is the temporal structure of chiasm" via the November 1960 working note).

Connections "is anticipated by institution"; Synthetic Claims entry citing claims#ineinander-universalizes-institution supported. - institution — the anchor concept both extend; the 1954-55 instituting-subject-as-hinge structure is the shared seed.
- merleau-ponty-2010-institution-and-passivity — IP p. 3 "institution in its nascent state" as common philological anchor.
- November 1960 V&I working note ("Time and chiasm" / "past and present are Ineinander, each enveloping-enveloped") — the textually attested site where both registers co-deploy (per claims#nov-1960-stiftung-grammatical-subject supported), independently named on both pages. (Re-tagged 2026-07-26 per the C2 reviewer: the note attests Stiftung, chiasm, Ineinander and flesh — Ineinander already on the temporal axis — and does not attest transtemporality by name; "transtemporal" has zero occurrences in the V&I folios raw, its three attestations being I&P raw lines 488, 2728, 3306. As evidence this bullet anchors the Ineinander side of the co-deployment only, and it simultaneously feeds the register-collapse rival recorded in the refuter objection below.)
Counterpressure / Limits
The strongest objection is that transtemporality is a latent / under-thematized concept in MP (Larison 2020 finds only occasional mentions; Décarie-Daigneault 2024 is the wiki's first sustained articulation; transtemporality's epistemic_status: novel and single-secondary-source anchoring are flagged on the page itself) while Ineinander is a fully systematized HUB-weight concept (8+ source attestations after SA-2006 ingest; the highest-attestation HUB in motifs.md). The structural parallel may rest on an articulation of transtemporality that is itself contested as MP-systematic. Second objection: the "extension of institution" framing for transtemporality cites Connections rather than a formal ## What the Concept Does section; ineinander has the full HUB-page apparatus. The asymmetric grounding strength means the parallel runs from a thinly-articulated side to a richly-articulated side — false-friend risk that the structural form on the transtemporality side is being projected by the wiki rather than read from the source. Third objection: the surrection / Saint Aubert reading (Open Question added 2026-05-16 to ineinander) holds that Ineinander's topology alone is inadequate without a dynamic supplement; if surrection-replaces-Ineinander wins the dispute, the parallel grounded here would need restatement.
A third register-pair candidate (enveloping-enveloped ↔ nascent-state) was tested in 2026-05-17 weave Pass 3 follow-up Scan B and rejected: the pair co-deploys at the same Nov 1960 V&I working note but fails the substitute-form axis categorially (enveloping-enveloped substitutes a synchronic topology of plural reciprocity; nascent-state substitutes a diachronic phase of singular becoming — two different kinds of operations, not "same operation in different registers"). The negative finding sharpens the register-pair architecture's specificity: the architecture requires not just "different axis" but "same structural-substitute operation on different axis WITH same grounding direction." See wiki/.audit/weave-pass3-2026-05-17-followup/scan-B-enveloping-nascent.md.
(2026-05-24 CR-028 promotion-ready dependency) Promotion-ready on second-source landing — needs corroborating secondary anchor (Larison 2016 or equivalent). Until then, single-source-primary structural constraint: the wiki's transtemporality-side articulation is anchored in Décarie-Daigneault 2024 alone (Larison 2020 supplies the brief working summary but not the structural reading); the Ineinander-side has multi-source support (Kaushik 2019 / 2021, Saint Aubert 2006 / 2021, M-C 2026 Mendoza-Canales chapter, V&I working notes), but the pair-architecture claim itself requires a second-source articulation of transtemporality as MP-systematic before promotion to live becomes defensible. Larison 2016 (the earlier Larison work) is one candidate second anchor; an independent reading of transtemporality from a different scholar (e.g., a Toadvine-vertigo-of-fossils side reading, a Carbone-mythical-time side reading) that engages the plane-of-coherent-coexistence structure would also discharge the hold. Per CR-028, the promotion-ready-on-second-source-landing status is documented here; promotion happens reactively when triggered. Status preserved at candidate.
- C2 refuter objection (rival-reading lens, consolidation 2026-07-26, wf_2de1ae1f-59d): C2 refuter objection (rival-reading lens, consolidation 2026-07-26): Two live rivals, both undefeated by this entry's Counterpressure, block candidate->live. (1) The rival the entry's own negative finding generates: this pair is the pair Scan B rejected. The Counterpressure's second block cites the rejection of
enveloping-enveloped ↔ nascent-state(weave Pass 3 follow-up Scan B) as sharpening the register-pair architecture. But at the level of each side's own cardinal anchor, the rejected pair and the promoted pair coincide. (a) Transtemporality's philological anchor and definitional formula is the nascent state: "institution in its nascent state" (IP p. 3) — see this entry's Claim and Evidence bullet 1, wiki/concepts/transtemporality.md Key Points bullet 3 + §"The IP p. 3 Anchor" + What-the-Concept-Does bullet 2, and wiki/concepts/nascent-state.md Connections, which types the relation as "is the modality grasped in transtemporality" (transtemporality = the nascent-state grasp deferred across the depth of memory). (b) Ineinander's temporal deployment is the enveloping-enveloped figure: the Nov 1960 note this entry's Evidence bullet 5 relies on reads "past and present are Ineinander, each enveloping-enveloped," and wiki/concepts/ineinander.md Problem-Space lists enveloping-enveloped as "the figural-literary register of the same mutual-implication structure that Ineinander names topologically." So Scan B's decisive axis-(ii) finding — "synchronic topology of plural reciprocity vs diachronic phase of singular becoming... two different kinds of operations" (scan-B-enveloping-nascent.md lines 25–35, table lines 29–33) — applies to this pair with the sides merely renamed. Scan B rebuts this in one unargued sentence ("By contrast, the transtemporality ↔ ineinander register-pair's substitutes BOTH were plural-reciprocal-coexistence-on-a-plane topologies", line 35) while its own veto check concedes the overlap ("Would heavily overlap withtranstemporality-ineinanderon hinge passage and grounding architecture", line 44) and its drafted caution warns that a register-pair claim "on the model of claims#transtemporality-ineinander-as-register-pair-extensions-of-institution would overstate the parallel" (line 58). The rival reading is therefore: the parallel holds only at an abstraction level ("rejects two-terms-first, substitutes non-reductive holding-together") that the wiki has already ruled insufficient, and the pair is the same false friend Scan B diagnosed. (2) A Rule-18 targeted raw check of the claim's cardinal anchor inverts the substitute-form axis. raw/institution-and-passivity-course-notes-from-the-college-de-france-1954-1955.md line 488 (course §"4) time", the passage the wiki cites as IP p. 3; Larison/Mendoza-Canales cite it as I&P 7) reads: "Time is not enveloping and not enveloped: there is from me to the past a thickness which is not made of a series of perspectives or of the consciousness of their relation... Lateral kinship of all the 'nows' which makes for their confusion, their 'generality,' a 'trans-temporality' of decline and decadence. [But] the originary trans-temporality is neither decline and decadence nor moreover the presence of the future in the present (Permanent Revolution), but it is institution in the nascent state." Locally, MP (i) denies the enveloping/enveloped predicates precisely of time — the very predicates the Ineinander-side topology is built from (wiki/concepts/ineinander.md Connections, Nov-1960 consequence-marker bullet) — and (ii) sorts the coexistence-of-heterogeneous-nows register ("lateral kinship of all the 'nows'", yielding confusion and generality) to the non-originary trans-temporality "of decline and decadence," reserving the originary sense for the nascent state, glossed at the end of the same paragraph as "neither decadence (delay back upon itself) nor anticipation (advance forward upon itself), but... on time, the time that it is" — a diachronic-genetic determination, not a plane of coexistence. This entry's axis (ii) rests on the opposite assignment: it makes "coherent coexistence of multiple heterogeneous temporalities on a single plane" the positive substitute pairing with Ineinander's "two terms already one-inside-the-other" (this entry's Claim, clause (ii)). That plane-formula is not MP's but Décarie-Daigneault's §3.3 gloss on Larison 2020's one-line summary (wiki/sources/.extraction-decarie-daigneault-2024-crooked-finger.md lines 51, 162–164, 256–259; wiki/concepts/transtemporality.md §"Larison's Summary"), and neither DD nor the wiki engages MP's degraded/originary split — DD's only guard is against Kosmotheoros/survol reduction (extraction line 335), which is not MP's guard here. So the rival is: the register-pair's alignment is achieved by rehabilitating as positive-substitute exactly the sense MP's text marks as the decadent one, i.e. the entry's own named "false-friend risk that the structural form on the transtemporality side is being projected by the wiki rather than read from the source" (Counterpressure bullet 1) is textually realized, not merely possible. (3) The redundancy rival (Ineinander already occupies the temporal register) is nowhere addressed. The claim partitions registers — transtemporality temporal-architectural, Ineinander ontological-topological — but wiki/concepts/ineinander.md What-the-Concept-Does item 4 lists "past-present" among the registers Ineinander universalizes, and its Connections type Ineinander as "is the temporal structure of chiasm." On the rival, the partition is a partition of the wiki's page inventory, not of MP's concepts, and transtemporality is a secondary reader's name for a sub-case of the temporal register Ineinander already covers, plus a vivre selon ethical overlay with no counterpart in MP's trans-temporal attestations (the other two, raw lines 2728 and 3306, concern oneiric consciousness "touch[ing] all times" and the past's sense "carried by that which is not"; neither is a plane-topology and neither mentions institution). This rival also deflates Payoff (b): the two pages do not "independently arrive" at chiasm — they cite one and the same Nov 1960 working note (this entry's Evidence bullet 5), so the convergence is a single-site artifact. (4) The entry's own promotion condition has been triggered by a source that supplies a rival register, not corroboration. Counterpressure's CR-028 block conditions live-promotion on "a second-source articulation of transtemporality as MP-systematic (Larison 2016 or equivalent)... promotion happens reactively when triggered." The corpus now contains one: Mendoza-Canales 2026 ch. 11 (Larison), where trans-temporality is HUB-weighted and developed as the ontological condition of the theory/praxis inversion — "non-successive time in which the past is reopenable," "the past that could have been otherwise" (wiki/sources/.extraction-mendoza-canales-2026-institution-ontology-politics.md lines 1255, 1259, 1268, 1288, 1301, 1324, and the corpus motif scan at line 1477; wiki/sources/mendoza-canales-2026-institution-ontology-politics.md Key Findings and Concepts Developed). The candidate that source actually generated istrans-temporality-as-condition-of-praxis(extraction line 1330) — a modal-political register that pairs transtemporality with revolution-as-another-Stiftung, not with Ineinander's mutual-implication topology; and it is Larison who quotes the full I&P 7 sentence including the "decline and decadence" split (extraction line 1288) that rival (2) turns on. This entry cites none of it: mendoza-canales-2026 is absent from itsSources:, Evidence, Counterpressure, and Status History, and the entry is otherwise unchanged since 2026-05-24. The second-source landing therefore does not discharge the hold — it installs a competing articulation of the transtemporality side that must be adjudicated first. Until rivals (1)–(4) are answered in Counterpressure, thespeculativeconfidence does not survive restatement and the claim stays at candidate.
Payoff
What becomes visible: MP's late corpus contains a register-pair architecture under institution, not a single universal extension. Institution opens dimensions; transtemporality names the nascent state in which those dimensions are held across time; Ineinander names the topology of Being-itself that the dimensional opening discloses. Reading them as a register-pair (a) tightens the IP-1954/55 → V&I-1960/61 trajectory (transtemporality is the seed of the temporal side of late ontology; Ineinander is the seed of the topological side); (b) explains why both pages independently arrive at chiasm as a third term (chiasm sits at the intersection of the two registers per the November 1960 working note); (c) provides a more economical reading of claims#ineinander-universalizes-institution (supported) — Ineinander universalizes one register of institution while transtemporality articulates a parallel-not-redundant register; (d) opens a structurally-grounded question for the questions/institution-and-ineinander page: how do the temporal-architectural and ontological-topological registers relate in MP's own (unwritten) systematic late ontology?
Status History
- 2026-05-16 — created as candidate via weave Pass 3 structural-isomorphism scan (calibration run-2, pair 3/9, re-emitted as production output in dry-run mode). Both pages independently extend institution in distinct registers, with chiasm as shared third term; structural-parallel rejection-substitute-grounding triple aligns on all three axes; no existing claim names the pair.
- 2026-05-24 — CR-028 promotion-ready-on-second-source-landing documentation added to Counterpressure. Per
wiki/.audit/comprehensive-review-2026-05-23-backlog.mdline 291–298: this claim is semantically promotable to live but the 2-source gate requires a secondary anchor for the transtemporality-side articulation (e.g., Larison 2016 or equivalent). The Counterpressure block now explicitly names the second-source dependency; promotion will happen reactively at the next Phase 8 run after the second secondary source is ingested. Status preserved at candidate; confidence preserved at speculative. - 2026-05-16 — status: created as candidate; (lifecycle backfill 2026-07-11)
- 2026-07-26 — C2 triage blocked at candidate (reviewer REQUEST-REVISION; refuter REFUTED — objection appended to Counterpressure; wf_2de1ae1f-59d), status unchanged; would promote: the CR-028 second-source discharge via the already-ingested Mendoza-Canales/Larison 2026 chapter written into Sources/Evidence (reviewer-named), plus anchored bullets replacing the two concept-page-only cites (bullets 1-2). Reviewer-named repair applied: bullet 5 re-tagged (the Nov 1960 note attests Ineinander on the temporal axis, not transtemporality by name).
