Claim
Nancy's late master-diagnostic is that the West's auto- — autonomy, autotelics, automation, the whole "archi-autonomic" self-grounding of civilization — is structurally allonomy-disclosing. Every auto-affection presupposes a distance to self; therefore what is more originary than autonomy is not a deeper autonomy but an archi-originary alteration. The diagnosis runs the auto-/allo- opposition as a single thread through Nancy's politics (community-without-foundation, being-with-out-essence) and his technology-thinking (technē as difference-to-self, ecotechnics): both are consequences of the one structural fact that the self is constituted by what is not itself.

- Nancy never names "allonomy" as a concept.
