Gadamer's account of experience (Erfahrung) is the precise hinge between the wiki's Hegel corpus and its phenomenology/finitude corpus. Gadamer adopts Hegel's dialectic of experience — Erfahrung as determinate negation (bestimmte Negation), the "reversal of consciousness," the in-itself becoming "for us" — but terminates it in finitude and openness rather than in absolute knowledge. The genuinely experienced person is not the one who has reached closure but the one who knows the limit of all anticipation: "experience is experience of human finitude."
