Aporia Harvest — 2026-07-28 (v0, first run)

Instrument definition. The ## Open Questions sections are the wiki's largest write-only layer: written at page creation, consulted only page-locally, never aggregated. This harvest reads the whole layer at once and reports what it holds — recurrence, staleness, gravity, and the queues hiding inside it. It is the read-side companion the schema section never had.

Provenance. Snapshot: master @ 51d18e8c via detached worktree (Rule 20 — a concurrent writer session was active). Extractor: session-local harvest.py/drill.py (mechanical: frontmatter + section parse, wikilink resolution, motif-term matching against motifs.md headings, token-Jaccard cross-page clustering). Non-mutating: this report edits no pages and moves no statuses; every proposed closure, creation, or promotion below is an adjudication row for a maintainer batch.

1. Inventory

  • 2,327 bullets on 668 of 906 pages (73.7% of the wiki carries the section). By subfolder: concepts 1,895 · entities 379 · sources 35 · questions 18. (Source pages have no Open Questions section in their body template — the 35 are organic outliers; the layer is a concept/entity phenomenon.)
  • Coarse form taxonomy (heuristic): interpretive questions 858 · open notes (unresolved observations, flags, cautions) 1,172 · philological/locator items 226 · explicitly source-gated 71–79.
  • Composition finding. The layer is not one register but three braided together, plus an antechamber:
    1. Aporiai proper — genuine interpretive questions (the section's declared job);
    2. a shadow process-ledger — 75 bullets on 67 pages carry weave/audit machinery state (Latent-Adjacent cautions, scan-calibration withholds, "Phase 8 needed");
    3. a shadow acquisition wishlist — 79 bullets on 72 pages name absent texts (§6 below);
    4. the claims antechamber — 38 bullets on 35 pages explicitly park would-be claim candidates ("promotion would require…", "Phase 8 candidate"). Only (1) is what the schema section advertises. (2)–(4) are real workloads living in a surface nothing reads — which is exactly why the harvest should recur.

2. Health findings

  • Claims entanglement is in excellent hygiene. 104 [[claims#…]] references across the layer, 68 distinct slugs, zero dead refs (the cite-back sweeps work). Status distribution of referenced entries: 49 live · 38 candidate · 16 supported · 1 contested. One row to check: theodore-f-geraets references claims#science-secrete-stiftung-chiasm (now contested) — verify the surrounding prose framing still matches the register status.
  • Confirmed stale bullet (closure candidate): love-as-formative-category states "The wiki currently has no Eckhart entity page" — entities/meister-eckhart.md exists. Close with a pointer.
  • Partially stale machinery withhold: eternal-recurrence and absolute-knowing both carry "typed connection withheld pending Scan G engine-terminus calibration." Scan G ran 2026-05-18 (Disanalogous; wiki/.audit/weave-pass3-2026-05-18-followup/scan-G-eternal-recurrence-aufhebung.md), and the run-4 sign-off re-scoped the withhold to named unblocking ingests (Deleuze 1962 / Klossowski 1969 / Vattimo 1974; Brandom / Pippin / Pinkard) — of which Klossowski 1969 has since been ingested (2026-06-06). The bullets' wording lags the adjudication state, and one named unblocking condition is now partially met. Adjudication row: update the two bullets' wording; decide whether the Klossowski ingest warrants re-opening the engine-terminus question.
  • Several bullets self-close in place (e.g. indirect-ontology records the SA-2006 closure; master-slave-morality updated post-GM-ingest; mutual-implication-as-ontological-starting-structure records its Rule-18 check as done 2026-06-10). Good practice — the layer partially maintains itself where pages get touched; the harvest catches the pages that don't.

3. Gravity centers

Where the corpus's puzzlement concentrates:

institution is the corpus's aporia capital — first by own count, second by inbound, and its motif family tops term presence by a factor of two. The layer independently confirms what the claims register already suggests (the supported Stiftung constellation): the corpus's center of unresolved gravity is institution.

4. Recurring aporiai (cross-page clusters)

31 cross-page near-duplicate clusters (Jaccard ≥ 0.5). Most of the pairwise ones are weave-machinery boilerplate deliberately mirrored on both pages of a scanned pair (by design; excluded). The organic recurrences:

5. Problem-space promotion candidate: grounding-without-foundation

The strongest promotion signal in the layer. Term-matching puts the ground family at 173 bullets on 131 pages (raw, includes figure/ground perceptual noise); maintainer-read sampling confirms a genuinely shared difficulty under at least five tradition-vocabularies:

The shared difficulty: what grounding amounts to once foundation is rejected — whether the ground-function survives the founder's demise, and at what price. Partial existing homes: anarchy-in-the-ground, ground-existence-distinction, soil-ground-sol, ungrund — none states the problem across all five vocabularies. Adjudication row: promote a problem-space-tagged concept page (working slug grounding-without-foundation) whose job is the cross-vocabulary statement, with the existing pages as its regional homes. The ≥3-sources bar is met several times over; the promotion is a maintainer decision, not this report's.

6. The acquisition instrument (instrument #4)

The 79 source-gated bullets constitute a fourth acquisition instrument beside OPS-009 (speculate/weave-derived), OPS-016 (Atlas almanac-derived), and the counter-library proposal (endangerment-derived; spec in progress). Named-text tally from the layer, by multiplicity:

  • Bergson, The Two Sources of Morality and Religion — 3 pages (elan-vital, intellect-instinct-intuition, bergson-1907-creative-evolution); the layer's top request, absent from both OPS-009 and OPS-016.
  • Arendt (natality; responsibility-under-dictatorship; revolution) — 3 pages; also the layer's top wanted entity page (hannah-arendt is the most-linked missing target).
  • Maritain (Humanisme intégral / Person and the Common Good) — 3 pages.
  • Deleuze — 3 mentions (converges with OPS-009; master-slave-morality's anti-dialectical reading explicitly waits on it).
  • Ruyer, La genèse des formes vivantes — 2 pages; Thompson, Mind in Life — 2 pages (the philosophy-of-biology contestation runs through Halák's mediation).
  • Single-page but flagged cardinal: Heidegger, "Nietzsches Wort 'Gott ist tot'" (Holzwege) — nihilism names it as the cardinal un-ingested text for the metaphysics-as-nihilism candidate; Heidegger, Der Satz vom Grund (feeds §5); Hegel Philosophy of Right (2 pages; converges with OPS-009); Simmel Lebensanschauung; Chouraqui Politics of Post-Truth; Larison 2020; Alloa 2019; Wittgenstein Tractatus (the silence comparison); Gibson (affordance); Whitehead; Foucault (souci de soi).
  • Corpus-absence findings: no Aristotle whatsoever (philia calls its theory "visibly constructed" out of Platonic material the corpus holds — a deferred genealogy with zero Aristotle anchor); no Spinoza (betise's conatus thread).

Instrument comparison: overlap with OPS-009 = {Deleuze, Hegel PhR, Levinas}; overlap with OPS-016 = ∅ at the top (the layer does not surface Gay Science — nihilism wants the Heidegger reception text instead). The three instruments see different gaps, which is itself evidence each is reading a real signal. The aporia instrument characteristically wants middle-term and counter-position texts — it is the natural feeder for the counter-library.

7. Actionable queues (adjudication rows — nothing auto-applies)

  • A. Closures (2 confirmed + 1 wording): the Eckhart stale bullet (§2); the Geraets status-framing check (§2); the Scan-G withhold wording on two pages (§2).
  • B. Micro-check batch (~10–12 items, one session): grep-scale term-persistence checks parked as aporiai — haecceity ×2 (incl. the French-original check), idea-as-dimension, initiation, nascent-state ("a targeted grep would settle this" — verbatim), logos-of-the-sensible Heidegger cross-check, allegory-of-the-cave/anamnesis periagōgē-vs-recollection alignment, play-as-political-virtue seriousness-consistency check. Cheapest aporia-closure per unit effort in the whole layer.
  • C. Parked-candidate reconciliation (38 bullets / 35 pages): the in-page antechamber should be reconciled against the ~82-row Phase-8 reservoir before the next audit Harvest (some overlap, some are reservoir-invisible — e.g. carnal-cogito's three-stage development chain, das-man's Seinsentlastung↔Ge-stell question).
  • D. Wanted pages, by inbound-link demand: hannah-arendt (3 — create on any Arendt engagement); adherence (horizons-of-language asks in so many words whether the wiki should create it, for PbP 49's dépassement dans l'adhérence même); il-y-a-mp (vertical-being pre-specifies its relation: "vertical Being is the source; il y a is the event"); urstiftung-of-nature (the 1956–57 Course 1 "Nature is Urstiftung" generalization question); reciprocal-envelopment; late-heidegger; stoicism (pyr technikon vs Heraclitean fire). Note: two questions/…-prefixed links counted as missing are path-form artifacts, not real gaps.

8. Speculate-seam feed

The richest single-page aporia sets for the next speculate run's aporia seam: institution (17 — the artificiality-grounding question especially), chiasm (12 — incl. the intracorporeal→intercorporeal transition called "the weakest point of MP's argument" on intercorporeity), the flesh-extension cluster (§4), the grounding family (§5), and nihilism's three-incompatible- grounds bullet — the last is practically a seam prompt already.

9. Codification proposal

  • Promote the extractor to scripts/harvest_open_questions.py (stdlib-only, non-mutating, --report writes wiki/.audit/aporia-harvest-{date}.md), with fixture tests per repo convention. Cadence: after every audit close-out and before every speculate run (the two consumers), or quarterly, whichever first.
  • Draft NEXT.md row (for the next ops-ledger pass): OPS-020 | aporia harvest | open | The Open-Questions layer (2,327 bullets/668 pages) is write-only; recurring aporiai, stale flags, and a 4th acquisition instrument are invisible without aggregation. | Adjudicate §7 queues A–D; decide §5 problem-space promotion; codify the harvester per §9.
  • v0 limits, stated plainly: motif-term matching over-counts (ground family includes figure/ground noise); same-vocabulary recurrence is under-counted (Jaccard misses paraphrase); closure detection is heuristic (only 4 auto-flagged stale candidates; the two confirmed closures in §7A came from maintainer reading, not the script). The instrument nominates; the maintainer adjudicates.
