Claim

On Heidegger's "Platons Lehre von der Wahrheit," the Cave is the hinge where truth-as-alētheia (unconcealment) is subordinated to truth-as-orthotēs (correctness): the freed prisoner "sees more correctly" (515d), the Good "gives truth to the things known" (508e), and education redirects the soul's gaze to where it "ought" to look (518d). The Republic thus marks, for Heidegger, the inception of the correspondence-conception of truth that defines metaphysics.
