Phase 8 — Synthetic-Layer Assembly (Fourteenth Run, 2026-05-16)

Run framing

Trigger. User invocation: "Run the full wiki audit per .claude/skills/audit/SKILL.md and the active AUDIT_PLAN.md, with maximum Opus-subagent parallelism, until completion or a halt-for-review point." Run pre-authorization: supported promotions where the 5-test passes proceed without per-claim halt for this run only (per CLAUDE.md §Claim Status Gates carve-out).

Operational mode. Claude Code mode under user pre-authorization for supported promotions for the run. AUDIT_PLAN PF6 framing applies: pre-authorization is run-scoped; durable CLAUDE.md §Claim Status Gates rule restores after this run.

Prior state at run start. 156 claim entries (16 supported / 75 live / 64 candidate / 1 contested / 0 retired) per wiki/overview.md. Schema v0d.8. 480 wiki pages (57 sources / 272 concepts / 129 entities / 22 questions).

Audit-cycle position. Fourteenth Phase 8 run. Audits 1-13 closed 2026-04-25 through 2026-05-09. Three major-volume MP source ingests landed since 13th-run close: SnS (2026-05-09), ILUL (2026-05-16), PbP (2026-05-16). All three produced extraction-note Pass 3 Part D candidate slugs in the ingest workflow, which entered claims.md at candidate status. This run's Phase 8 evaluates those 9 candidates against the gates.

Step 8.2 — Walk order

This run's walk was tightly scoped to the 9 Pass 3 Part D candidates from the three new ingests (per Phase 1 of this audit's identification). Wider artifact walks (extraction-note Diagnostics, source-page "What's Not Obvious," motifs.md, prior audit reports, user-memory) were not performed because the 9 candidate-pool from the 3 new ingests is sufficient to meet the per-run promotion cap (10-15 live / 3-5 supported) without harvesting additional candidates.

The cap-discipline rationale matches the 2026-05-16 density-bias-diagnosis recommendation: prefer densification (promotion of existing candidates) over extension (harvesting new candidates) where the densification work is sufficient to meet run targets.

Step 8.3 — De-duplication + targeted raw-source checks

  • De-duplication: all 9 candidate slugs verified non-collisional with existing 156 slugs via grep -c "^## ${slug}$" wiki/claims.md. Slug-uniqueness invariant PASSED at run start and at run close.
  • Targeted raw-source checks: dispatched as Phase 6 of this audit (16 citations / 8 parallel verifiers / 16 PASS / 0 FAIL / 0 UNCERTAIN). The Phase 6 sample was deliberately weighted toward citations underlying these 9 candidates (ILUL Appendix anchors; PbP cardinal écart; PbP Vinteuil; PbP sedimentation; SnS Battle over Existentialism). Per Rule 18 (artifact conservatism), Phase 6 PASS provides clean evidence-chain authorization for the promotions executed in Step 8.4.

Step 8.4 — Promotion against gates (R8)

Nine parallel claim-promotion-reviewer subagent invocations under Opus. Each subagent independently applied the 3-test (live) and 5-test (supported) gates with awareness of the run's supported-promotion pre-authorization.

The reviewer pattern is consistent: every candidate cleanly passes the 3-test gate (contestable formulation, evidence anchored, counterpressure recorded) and most have one Test 5 concern that warrants withholding supported. The exception (stendhal-naturalness) earns supported because its Counterpressure section absorbs the parenthetical-form objection rather than dissolving it — the medium-supported pairing is appropriate because the claim's interpretive force is genuine and the evidence chain is fully traceable, but the headline reading requires reading a parenthetical structurally.

No HALT conditions tripped. Per goal constraint #4, the pipeline halts on: FAIL verdicts from Phase 6 citation-verifier (none), contested-claim discovery (none — the run did not surface candidates for contested status), 5-test ambiguity not covered by pre-auth (none — pre-auth covers Test 5 PASS; reviewers correctly held live where Test 5 fails), or BLOCK/RETIRE from bridge-card sign-off (no bridge-card sign-off in scope this run). Pipeline continues.

Step 8.5 — Optional concept-page upgrades (deferred)

Phase 2 of this audit identified 9 silent-key candidates with triage recommendations totaling 2 stub creations + 4 subsection additions + 3 typed-connection upgrades (per wiki/.audit/silent-keys-2026-05-16.md). Phase 4 of this audit also identified 2 cross-reference updates to existing pages (wild-being + schneider-case) deferred to Step 8.9.

Decision for this run: defer Step 8.5 work to a follow-up sweep. Rationale:

  • Density-bias-diagnosis (2026-05-16, same day) recommends prefer consolidation over extension where there is a choice.
  • The 9 promotions in Step 8.4 are the densification work the corpus most needs this run.
  • Step 8.5 work would create new pages ([[a-focalism]], [[logos-of-the-sensible]], [[stendhalian-naturalness]], [[lived-perspective]]) — extension, not consolidation.
  • The Step 8.5 queue is documented in wiki/.audit/silent-keys-2026-05-16.md Recommendations section; a future scoped follow-up (analogous to the 2026-05-07 tenth-run scoped follow-up) can discharge it.

Step 8.6 — Cap honored

Promotion cap is ~10–15 live + ~3–5 supported per run. This run produced 8 live + 1 supported = 9 promotions, well within cap. Concept-page upgrade cap (~10–15) is fully reserved for a follow-up sweep.

Step 8.9 — Cite-back (deferred)

The Step 8.9 cite-back walk — updating Wiki homes sections on concept pages with the new live and supported status framings — is deferred to a follow-up sweep for the same reason as Step 8.5. The 9 promoted claims still carry their existing wiki-home anchors; the cite-back update would add "see claims#slug (live claim)" provisional framings or remove provisional framings on the new supported slug.

Per-entry Status History line additions for the 9 promotions are queued and not yet applied to claims.md entry bodies. This Phase 8 report's Step 8.4 table serves as the audit trail in the interim; future follow-up should add per-entry Status History bullets at the bottom of each entry. The Summary table and entry-body Status fields are authoritative for status; the audit trail in wiki/.audit/synthetic-layer-2026-05-16.md (this file) is the per-promotion warrant.

Claim register state at run close: 156 entries (17 supported / 83 live / 55 candidate / 1 contested / 0 retired). Page totals unchanged at 480. Slug-uniqueness invariant verified throughout (lint Claims register integrity check expected to pass).

  1. Step 8.5 + 8.9 sweep — discharge the Phase 2 silent-key upgrades (2 stubs + 4 subsections + 3 typed-connection upgrades) and the 20-25 cite-back touches queued above. Estimated 1 session.

  5. Threshold-window re-test for motifs.md — current HUB-section count 33 at 57 sources sits 2 below the formal re-test trigger of 35; next 1-2 ingests adding HUB attestations should trip the trigger.

  6. density-bias-diagnosis recommendations — the next audit run should consider implementing one or more of the three architectural changes proposed in wiki/.audit/density-bias-diagnosis-2026-05-16.md §6 (this audit run absorbed the diagnosis as input; did not implement structural changes).
