Plato-cohort silent-key scan — audit v1.9 Phase 2 (2026-06-23)
Run: v1.9 Plato-cohort comprehensive audit · branch claude/audit-2026-06-23
Method: silent-key-scanner subagent, read-only, opus 1M — 28 solo (16 major + 12 mid dialogues) + 3 minor/spuria/dubia batches = 31 invocations covering all 38 Plato sources (0 missing). Raw corpus = single combined Cooper/Hutchinson Complete Works; scanners grepped per-dialogue. Each key passed the three-test gate (removed-test / defined-status / load-bearing).
Summary
104 silent keys across 38 sources. Triage: 52 subsection · 29 typed-connection-upgrade · 21 leave-as-is · 2 new concept-page.
The scan confirms the cohort was extracted well — only 2 keys rise to new-concept-page weight, and 21 were judged already adequately captured. The bulk (52 subsection) are positionally load-bearing terms the per-source motif tracker missed: receptacle-vocabulary in the Timaeus (tode/toiouton), the unhypothetical first principle (anhypotheton) in the Republic, the rejected contrariety-reading of negation (enantion) in the Sophist, metaxu in the Symposium, and a recurring eudaimonist-premise family across the Socratic dialogues (eu prattein/eudaimonia/chrēsthai/sōtēria) that no single page homes.
§1 — New concept-page candidates (2) — DECISION NEEDED
| Source | Term | Load-bearing? | Why it's page-grade |
|---|---|---|---|
plato-theaetetus |
homoiōsis theōi / paradeigma ("becoming like God so far as possible"; "two patterns set up in reality", 176a–177a) |
yes | The Digression's ethical telos is structurally central to the dialogue yet has no home; paradeigma (the two patterns) is also the Statesman's method-term — a cross-dialogue load-bearing figure. Not a specialization of an existing page. |
plato-hipparchus |
enantion ("profit is the opposite of loss") |
yes (locally) | The whole (dubious) argument turns on an unargued opposition-schema. But Hipparchus is dubia — recommend a subsection on plato-hipparchus flagging the load-bearing-but-undefined enantion, not a standalone page (a dubium does not warrant a corpus concept page). |
Recommendation: create [[homoiosis-theoi]] (or a subsection on plato-theaetetus + a stub) — defer the create/subsection decision to the maintainer at the Wave-A checkpoint. Treat Hipparchus enantion as a subsection only.
§2 — Subsection candidates (52) — Tier A routes to Phase 4; remainder backlog
Tier A — highest-value, load-bearing on thesis-central dialogues (route to Phase 4 subsection writes, batched ≤20 files):
| Source | Term (locus) | Note |
|---|---|---|
plato-republic |
anhypotheton — the unhypothetical first principle (511b) |
Anchors dialectic-as-ascent / the divided line; thesis-central, currently undefined on the page. |
plato-timaeus |
tode/toiouton — "this" vs "what is such" (49d–50a) |
The receptacle argument's load-bearing grammatical distinction. |
plato-timaeus |
peithō — Intellect "persuades" Necessity (48a, 56c) |
The cosmos's governing image; famously load-bearing, never defined. |
plato-phaedo |
deficiency / "falls short" / "strives to be like" (74d–75b) | The approximation relation between particulars and Forms — participation's engine. |
plato-sophist |
enantion — the contrary (the rejected reading of negation, 257b) |
The reading the not-being rescue must defeat; load-bearing by exclusion. |
plato-parmenides |
chōrismos / separation — auto kath' hauto (130b, 133a) |
The separation that generates the participation dilemma. |
plato-parmenides |
self-predication — "largeness is itself large" (132a) | The Third Man's hidden premise. |
plato-symposium |
metaxu — the in-between (202a–204b) |
The form of Love's being; also the Plato anchor for any cross-tradition between/intermediate motif (see motifs delta). |
plato-symposium |
mysteries / initiation (teletē/mystēria, 209e–210a) |
Frames the ascent as initiation, not argument. |
plato-gorgias |
kharis / gratification (462c–465a) |
The flattery/rhetoric critique turns on aim-at-gratification vs aim-at-the-best. |
plato-statesman |
hekousion/bia — the voluntary vs the enforced (276e, 291e) |
The constitutional taxonomy's load-bearing differentia. |
plato-apology |
ho theos — "the god" (singular Apollo vs plural civic gods, 23b) |
The piety/impiety crux of the trial in one word. |
Tier B — eudaimonist-premise family (recurs across Socratic dialogues; candidate for ONE shared treatment, not per-page subsections): plato-euthydemus eu prattein/chrēsthai; plato-charmides eu prattein/eudaimonia; plato-protagoras sōtēria; plato-menexenus self-sufficiency/"Nothing too much"; plato-lysis chrēsimon (lovability-as-usefulness). → backlog note: a [[eu-prattein]] / eudaimonist-premise treatment would home five scattered keys at once; defer to a future run.
Tier C — remainder (backlog, recorded for a future audit): plato-republic compulsion/Necessity (anankē); plato-timaeus (covered); plato-phaedo "that without which the cause" (auxiliary vs real cause, 99b); plato-phaedrus addressee-fittingness (271b); plato-philebus hikanon/teleon (the sufficient/perfect); plato-statesman syngenē technai (kindred arts); plato-meno "the whole of nature is akin" (syngeneia, 81d); plato-laws aniatos (incurable), hupēretai tōn nomōn (ministers of the laws); plato-cratylus diakritikon tēs ousias (name as instrument of division); plato-apology ainigma (the oracle as riddle); plato-laches time-undivided knowledge / better-for-whom differentia; plato-euthyphro meros (part-of-virtue mereology), therapeia vs hyperetikē; plato-crito "just agreement" (dikaia homologia), "nullify the laws"; plato-ion hermēneus (interpreter of interpreters); plato-hippias-major strife/consensus-test, to hyperechon (the projecting); plato-hippias-minor "if there is such a person" (376b); plato-letter-7 publicity/divulging (the esoteric/exoteric boundary); plato-philebus syngenes/oikeion (kinship to the good); + the minor/dubia/spuria keys (Alcibiades-I auto to auto; Clitophon didaskein/homonoia; Epinomis logon didonai; Minos exeuresis; Letters to hypeuthynon; etc.).
§3 — Typed-connection-upgrade candidates (29) — route to Phase 4 where cheap
These keys are adequately present but flagged for a typed-connection or cross-link upgrade rather than a new subsection. They overlap heavily with the Phase-1 coherence missing-crosslink findings (e.g. the technē-analogy thread, the diairesis self-correction, the eros-ascent siblings). Routing: fold into the Phase-4 coherence reciprocity pass (no separate batch) — they are the same edges from the silent-key angle. Full per-source list in the run digest.
§4 — Leave-as-is (21) — recorded, no action
Keys judged load-bearing but already adequately captured by an existing concept page or extraction-note treatment (e.g. peras/apeiron → peras-apeiron.md; orthotes onomatōn → correctness-of-names.md; periagōgē → already in allegory-of-the-cave/the Republic note; to metron/kairos → the-mean.md). No write. This is the healthy outcome — it confirms the cohort's load-bearing vocabulary mostly reached the wiki.
§5 — Routing summary
- Checkpoint decision:
homoiōsis theōi/paradeigma— new page vs subsection-on-Theaetetus? - Phase 4 (Wave B): Tier-A subsections (~12) + the §3 typed-connection-upgrades folded into the coherence reciprocity pass, batched ≤20 files/commit. Realistically Phase 4's ~15-page cap means a subset lands and the rest joins the backlog — recorded here so nothing is lost.
- Backlog (future run): Tier B (eudaimonist-premise shared treatment) + Tier C (~30 keys). File reference: this report.
- Phase 7: any page receiving a load-bearing silent-key subsection is a confidence-recalibration candidate (term established as thesis-central).
