Saint Aubert Integration — Phase 4 Backlog

Date: 2026-04-25 Audit phase: Phase 4 (per AUDIT_PLAN.md v1.3, M3 cap)

The 2026-04-25 Phase 4 audit reviewed 11 pages in depth (under the M3 cap of 15) for Saint Aubert E&C II integration. This backlog file lists the identified-but-deferred candidates for the next audit round, with reasoning for each so a future executor can pick up from the right priority.

Phase 4 outcome (2026-04-25)

Reviewed in depth (8 Tier A + 3 Tier B = 11 pages):

# Page Updates
1 silence Added Saint Aubert as source; new section on silence as one of four figuratifs (silence + shadow + horizon + depth); Cousteau-Malle 1955 Le Monde du silence + obstetric ultrasound conjuncture in late prégnance
2 freud-without-demonology Added Saint Aubert as source; new §6 on the replacement thesis (consciousness → unconscious, MSME 1953 genesis); cross-link to inconscient-primordial and the contested-status question page
3 wild-being Added Saint Aubert as source; new section on the épreuve mutuelle counter-reading (being is what bears flesh, not what flesh is); November 1960 "barbaric Principle" reread
4 passivity Added Saint Aubert as source; "Dough, Blisters, Flywheel" subsection updated with Cassirer-Schwungrad source for flywheel/volant (Saint Aubert's philological discovery); cross-link to volant
5 hyper-dialectic Added Saint Aubert as source; new genealogical section on Natu2 1958 first use of hyperdialectique (Saint Aubert's correction of prior V&I-only attribution)
6 edmund-husserl Added Saint Aubert as source; new section on the Gurwitsch causal thesis (Aron Gurwitsch's 1957 Théorie du champ de la conscience drives MP's anti-Husserl turn)
7 jean-paul-sartre Added Saint Aubert as source; new section on the late MP anti-Sartre thread (cristallisation cardinal, grain-du-sensible, texture imaginaire, folie de la conscience, hyper-objet)
8 maurice-merleau-ponty Added Saint Aubert as source; new Connections entry with archive-primacy reading (5-volume Être et chair project, three depth-preserving theses)
9 interrogation Added Saint Aubert as source; small Connection on foi interrogative (Épilogue § 2) and Claudelian carnal cogito
10 depth-profondeur Added Saint Aubert as source; small Connection on depth as one of four figuratifs
11 henri-wallon Added Saint Aubert as source; subsection on Wallon as the philological source of ultra-chose (Saint Aubert's reconstruction)

Deferred candidates (next audit round)

Pages identified during Phase 4 Step 4.1 as Saint Aubert-thematic but not reviewed in this round. Listed in suggested priority order for the next audit pass.

Priority A (next audit — direct Saint Aubert relevance)

  1. hyper-reflection (last updated 2026-04-12) — Saint Aubert's grain-du-sensible argument bears on hyper-reflection: if the perceptual texture (grain) resists the reflective gaze, hyper-reflection has to incorporate the resistance. Saint Aubert's reading of the folie de la conscience (Sartre + Descartes shared disease) extends to the reflective project. Worth a Position addition.

  2. lebenswelt (last updated 2026-04-11) — Saint Aubert's Husserl-via-Gurwitsch reframing (now on edmund-husserl §"Gurwitsch causal thesis") affects how the Lebenswelt is read. The "tourbillon substitution at NT p. 297-298 April 1960" (Saint Aubert's third Gurwitsch pillar) is a Lebenswelt-specific finding.

  3. ontological-difference (last updated 2026-04-11) — Saint Aubert's ontologie de l'objet (a primary new concept page from the 2026-04-23 ingest at ontology-of-the-object) is a polemical category positioned against MP's late ontology. The contrast bears on ontological-difference: MP's "Ce n'est pas par l'être et le néant que nous pouvons comprendre cela" (NLVIaf2 [149]) reframes ontological difference itself.

  4. nonphilosophy (last updated 2026-04-21) — Saint Aubert's foi interrogative and the cogito charnel extend the indirect-method genealogy. The published 2026-04-23 ingest already touched the intra-ontology page; the nonphilosophy page deserves a parallel pass given Saint Aubert's distinct reading of indirect ontology (vs. Chouraqui's intra-ontology reading).

  5. schneider-case (last updated 2026-04-21) — Saint Aubert's inconscient excessif and "perception is the true unconscious" (EM3 [247]v(32)) reframe Schneider's loss of "merely possible" as a structural opening of the perceptual unconscious. Worth a small note.

Priority B (next audit — indirect relevance)

CR-024 sweep status (2026-05-24): 5 discharged, 4 re-deferred, 1 duplicate. Items 6, 7, 8, 13, 14 discharged. Items 9/15 (collapsed: primordial-symbolism), 10, 11, 12 re-deferred with documented reasoning below.

  1. visible-invisible (2026-04-21) — DISCHARGED 2026-05-24. Added Saint-Aubert as source; new §"Saint-Aubert's Figuratifs Reading" naming the figuratifs cluster (fond, ombre, profondeur, silence, horizon, niveau, reflet, relief; EM3 [254]) as the closed cluster through which the visible/invisible structure is concretely realized in MP's late corpus; new Connection (is concretized by figuratifs); new Sources entry.
  2. motor-intentionality (2026-04-21) — DISCHARGED 2026-05-24. Added Saint-Aubert as source; new Connection (has as its passive-active hinge figure volant) on the volant d'inertie / Schwungrad as MP's silent Cassirer-borrowing for the I-can's passive-active conjunction (PbParole 116/[80]v(4) on motricity-perception coupling; PbPassiv 179/[127](15) on charnière moi-autrui); new Sources entry.
  3. body-schema (2026-04-18) — DISCHARGED 2026-05-24. Same volant integration as motor-intentionality, framed as the inertia-mass account of how the body-schema's "system of equivalences" operates dynamically without continuous re-computation; new Connection + Sources entry.
  4. hyper-objet's upstream pagesRE-DEFERRED 2026-05-24 (collapsed with item 15: primordial-symbolism). Reason: Saint-Aubert's Winnicott-via-Bachelard hyper-objet treatment is a substantive Position addition, not a small Connection. It requires adjudication of how Saint-Aubert's hyper-objet (the surdéterminée transitional object that mediates ultra-choses) bears on (a) primordial symbolism's "third hypothesis" (body as apparatus for living, possession of imaginings) and (b) the perceptual-unconscious's operation through primordial symbolism. The two readings are not obviously compatible — Saint-Aubert insists we cannot endure raw indétermination, while MP's primordial-symbolism account valorizes the undivided unity. This tension warrants its own audit-round pass. The passivity-dream sections were already discharged in Tier A (item 4 above). Picked up by: next audit round, Tier A candidate.
  5. generative-passivity (2026-04-21) — RE-DEFERRED 2026-05-24. Reason: Beith's static/genetic/generative passivity tripartite vs. Saint-Aubert's portance/donation-en-chair/anti-portance register is a substantive comparative scaffold (not a single Connection). Both readings ground a non-derivative concept of passivity, but the comparison requires careful treatment — Saint-Aubert's portance is announced for a future post-exegetical work and is itself in exegesis-construction tension (Critique noted on saintaubert-2021-etre-et-chair-ii). Picked up by: next audit round, when portance receives a parallel Beith-Saint-Aubert comparison section.
  6. interanimality (2026-04-21) — RE-DEFERRED 2026-05-24. Reason: The original backlog item cited "Saint Aubert touches Nature material; naissance/co-naissance register has an interanimal extension" but did not cite a specific Saint-Aubert passage anchoring an interanimality-specific finding. The page is already well-developed (Décarie-Daigneault Deleuzian extension, Portmann, primary Nature course text); without a specific Saint-Aubert anchor passage, integration would be speculative. Picked up by: next round if a passage-level finding emerges from the E&C I (2023) ingest or future Nature-volumes.
  7. intra-ontology (2026-04-21) — RE-DEFERRED 2026-05-24 with status update. Status update: the original deferral cited Saint-Aubert 2006 Vers une ontologie indirecte as "NOT in raw/"; this is now stale — the 2006 volume was ingested 2026-05-07, and the source page saintaubert-2006-vers-une-ontologie-indirecte is the principal scholarly framework anchor for the indirect-ontology page. The intra-ontology page (which is distinct from indirect-ontology and is Chouraqui-built) still needs a Position section for Saint-Aubert's distinct framework — but this is now a substantial Position addition (the 2006 volume is 50K+ on the source-page side), not a mechanical patch. Reason for re-defer: warrants a dedicated Tier-A pass with the 2006 source-page material read carefully, not a sweep-style addition. Picked up by: next audit round, Tier A candidate.
  8. dehiscence (2026-04-13) — DISCHARGED 2026-05-24. Added Saint-Aubert as source; new Connection (is structurally adjacent to epreuve-mutuelle-de-la-chair-et-de-letre) noting that Saint-Aubert's counter-reading recontextualizes dehiscence within the three-term ma chair / chair du monde / être ontology; new Sources entry.
  9. phenomenal-field (2026-04-12) — DISCHARGED 2026-05-24. Added Saint-Aubert as source; new §"Saint-Aubert's Grain du Sensible Extension" — PhP's level-description of the phenomenal field gains a texture-description through the grain du sensible / volant register (S(PhiOmb) p. 211, 1958, anti-Sartre anchor); the grain's optimum / écart / inertia-mass dynamic supplies a mechanism for how PhP's "form is the birth of a norm" operates. New Connection + Sources entry.
  10. primordial-symbolismRE-DEFERRED 2026-05-24 (collapsed with item 9). See item 9 above for reasoning.

Not in scope for next audit (defer further)

  • Pages on MP's primary interlocutors not yet integrated:
    • paul-claudel (2026-04-17) — Saint Aubert relies heavily on Claudel for naissance/co-naissance and "Σιγή the abyss"; the entity page should reflect this. Mostly already integrated via co-naissance.
  • The 2006 Saint Aubert ingest (Vers une ontologie indirecte, Vrin) is the most consequential raw/ absence per the Phase 1 gap report. Acquiring and ingesting that volume would unlock a substantial wave of Phase 4 reviews on intra-ontology / nonphilosophy / wild-being / chiasm pages (since Saint Aubert's 2006 framework is a distinct indirect-ontology reading not currently captured on the wiki).
  • The 2013 Saint Aubert Du corps au désir / Être et chair I ingest would similarly close cross-references on desire / body / vrai dehors pages.

Methodology notes

The Phase 4 cap (15) prevented full coverage of the ~30 pre-2026-04-23 Saint Aubert-thematic pages. The choice to spend ~70% of the cap on Tier A (8 pages with substantial subsection additions) and ~30% on Tier B (3 pages with light Connection additions) reflects the diminishing-returns curve: the Tier A pages have cardinal Saint Aubert findings (replacement thesis, Gurwitsch causal claim, volant-Cassirer borrowing, anti-Sartre thread, foi interrogative, Natu2 1958 hyperdialectique genesis) that are load-bearing for any future paper-side work; the Tier B pages have adjacent findings whose absence is less consequential.

A future executor should:

  1. Begin with Priority A (5 pages) — these have direct cardinal-finding relevance.
  2. Triage Priority B (10 pages) by recent ingest activity — pages updated since 2026-04-25 will likely have absorbed some material organically.
  3. Re-check whether Saint Aubert 2006 (Vers une ontologie indirecte) has entered raw/; if so, that ingest precedes another Phase 4 round.

The Saint Aubert integration is by nature unbounded — the 5-volume Être et chair project plus the article corpus represents one of the most archive-driven secondary literatures on MP, and any pre-Saint-Aubert page on a Saint Aubert-thematic concept can defensibly receive an integration pass. The cap discipline matters precisely because of this unbounded character.
