Refuter-Verdicts Ledger
One row per refuter seat verdict across the consolidation program's history —
the C2 triage refuter and the three C3 supported-jury lenses, plus the 2026-07-28
blinded calibration seats. Purpose: make kill-reason drift measurable across runs
instead of vanishing into per-run digests (spec:
design-research/specs-2026-07-28/jury-calibration.md §5; created 2026-08-18 as
the companion record item of NEXT.md OPS-020).
Row key: (Run, Gate, Claim slug, Lens) — one row per seat verdict, exactly
once. Processed-once rule: a seat verdict appears exactly once; regenerated
or salvaged adjudication artifacts do not re-row (the run-3 interrupt reruns and
the run-2 salvage are already deduplicated in the committed verdicts JSONs, which
are this ledger's source of truth). Gate ∈ C2 / C3 / CAL — CAL rows are the
2026-07-28 calibration seats, flagged and excluded from operational drift
stats (they judged doctored snapshot entries, not the live register).
Anchored? = whether the objection cites file+location for its central defect
(the refuter contract requires it; tracked for compliance). Class = one primary
class per verdict, by the lead defect — the one the seat itself puts first;
secondary classes ride in the Note as (2° X).
Checking and regeneration: uv run scripts/build_refuter_ledger.py
(--check, default) verifies every mechanical column (Date/Run/Gate/slug/Lens/
Verdict), row-key uniqueness, per-run completeness, and the distribution table
against the committed verdicts JSONs + the embedded run-1 record; Class/Anchored?/
Note are maintainer judgment (vocabulary-validated only). For a new run:
--skeleton <verdicts.json> --run <n> --date <date-key> emits pre-filled rows —
classify them, append, add the run's REGISTRY line in the script in the same
commit, re-run --check (consolidate SKILL C5).
Count reconciliation (recorded once, here). The widely-quoted all-time tally
"146/146 REFUTED" undercounts run 1 by one seat: the run-1 digest's gated-panel
table has 12 rows, but its own §Blocked promotions line reads "All 13 refuter
objections (12 gated + valery)" — valery-eventuel-mode received its full
two-agent gate before the mid-run rescope and its refuter verdict (REFUTED,
raw-5074 rival) was harvested and applied. The seat-level record is therefore
147 historical REFUTED verdicts (13 + 34 + 28 + 26 + 16 + 15 + 15, runs 1–7)
plus 30 CAL REFUTED = 177 rows, zero STANDS ever.
Class vocabulary
- A — Deflationary rival re-description: the same evidence explained at least as well by a weaker relation (common source, shared lexical convention, genre effect, family resemblance, one-operation-two-applications).
- B — Direction/priority reversal: chronology or derivation direction reversed; the precursor slot already occupied.
- C — Source's own text supplies the counter-statement: the author's local framing contradicts the claim.
- D — Corpus-internal contradiction / register-integrity: a sibling register entry, the claim's own Wiki homes, or the wiki's own artifacts assert the rival; imports of blocked sibling claims as anchors; near-duplicate tension.
- E — Anchor mislocation / locator failure: wrong page, footnote, or chapter; pagination-oracle offsets.
- F — Quotation-integrity / Rule-16 fabrication class: paraphrase-in-quotes, untraceable or composite quotation, commentator's-prose-as-author, fabricated anchor.
- G — Anchor does not carry the claimed weight: the passage does different local work (Rule 18); characterization unwarranted; one relatum of a two-term claim unanchored; Evidence bullets that are unexecuted research tasks.
- H — Over-scoped wording / equivocation / flat-vs-hedged: claim defensible only under an unstated narrowing; operative term broader than every cited rejection; flat assertion where the source hedges; homonymy across homes.
Backfill classification notes (2026-08-18, one Opus seat per run + main-thread
spot-check). (1) Many objections open with the class-A formula ("explains the
evidence at least as well") while the substantive lead defect is C, G, or H;
rows are classified by the substantive lead, so A counts run lower than a
formula-literal reading would give. (2) A recurrent procedural defect —
promotion blocked on an unmet self-set Status-History precondition or an
undischarged deferred Rule-18 check (15 of 19 C2 + 4 of 15 C3 objections in run
2 alone) — has no A–H slot and rides as a secondary strand; it is the same
phenomenon as run 6's self-set-precondition finding and the queued pre-gate
check. (3) The three deformation-coherente-mp-coinage seats' lead defect (a
negative existential falsified by a third text found in raw/) is coded C
loosely — the falsifying text is the claimed coiner's own. (4) Run 1's
valery-eventuel-mode row rests on a Counterpressure bullet attributed "C2
rival-reading note" rather than "refuter" (rescope harvest wording); run 3's
seats were assembled across three instances (schema false start + salvage +
wf_f4d3dab1-358), so some run-3 refuter work is dated 2026-07-27.
