Pagination Oracles — locator-offset register

Durable register of known raw-marker ↔ printed-folio relationships for edition-sensitive raw sources. Consulted by the codex-review skill (interpretive-precision recipe), by Rule 18 targeted checks, and by the audit Citations phase before any locator is written or "corrected." Created 2026-07-28 (Codex PR #117 review — the prior "pagination-oracle notes" existed only as session-scoped memory, the non-durable dependency General Rule 17's design philosophy warns against).

Standing rule, all sources: derive per-locator; never apply a blanket offset. Drift is non-uniform wherever it has been measured.

Merleau-Ponty, The Visible and the Invisible (English, Lingis)

  • Ingested raw (raw/The Visible and the Invisible (Studies in Phenomenology and Existental Philosophy) (Maurice Merleau-Ponty).md) carries no page markers.
  • Oracle instruments (both uningested, kept for locator work only): raw/visible_invisible_hybrid_inline_folios_v2.md — Lingis edition with printed folios inline as [[p. N]]; raw/Working Notes Visible Invisible.md — per-note page index for the working notes.
  • Known crux: the time-and-chiasm working note = Fr 321 / Eng 267–268, breaking mid-sentence across the English folio only (Eng 267–68 refresh, commit 813ce2c; Fr corrected from 320–321 → 321 on 2026-08-18 — the French raw's own index reads "Temps et chiasme, 321." and the note sits wholly between folio markers [321]/[322] at raw/datalab-output-Le_visible_et_l_invisible.pdf.md 2708–2724, which that earlier refresh had treated as absent from raw/).

Derrida, On Touching — Jean-Luc Nancy

  • Raw (raw/On Touching-Jean-luc Nancy (Jacques Derrida).md): {N} markers sit +10 above printed folios (e.g. printed p. 275 = raw {285} — the source page's Key Passages use the explicit "p. X (printed; raw marker {Y})" convention).
  • Section spans: §12 = printed 265–280; §13 opens at 281 (derived 2026-07; re-verify per Rule 18 on first load-bearing use).
  • Corpus-wide locator sweep queued (per-locator, never blanket −10).

Malraux, The Voices of Silence (English, Gilbert/Princeton–Bollingen)

  • Raw (raw/datalab-output-The voices of silence (Malraux, André, 1901-1976, Gilbert, Stuart).md): {N} markers ≠ printed folios; drift is non-uniform through the volume — never blanket-offset.
  • Part IV §VII: uniform −31 (marker→folio), pinned four ways against the volume's own topic lines (see the 2026-07-27 fixup entry in wiki/log.md: "The inner voice, 630" … "The noblest legacy…, 640").
  • The Synopsis is a topic index, not a page oracle: it indexes where a topic opens, not where a sentence lands (off-by-one trap).
  • Un-re-derived residue (pp. 14, 16, 53, 70, 71, 130, 272, 386, 117, 396) remains in raw-{N} convention — see the Locator convention note (2026-07-27) on wiki/sources/malraux-1953-voices-of-silence.md; routed to the next audit Citations phase.

Malraux, Les Voix du silence (French, NRF/Pléiade) — provisional

  • Raw (raw/les-voix-du-silence-(andre-malraux).md): the 2026-07-26 refuter pass treated {N} markers as printed pages directly (déformation-cohérente hits at printed {355} and {444}). Not yet verified as a volume-wide rule — treat as provisional; derive per-locator.

Merleau-Ponty, Child Psychology and Pedagogy (CPP, Sorbonne 1949–1952, Welsh)

  • Raw (raw/datalab-output-Child psychology and pedagogy the Sorbonne lectures 1949-1952 (Maurice Merleau-Ponty, Talia Welsh).md): {N} markers are PDF pages at +16 from printed folios — adjudicated against the volume's own index (consolidation 2026-07-27 run-4 digest, "Absence-claim re-verification" §(c): Gestaltists printed 150; ambivalence-as-substitute 73, 124; contrasted-with-ambiguity 242, 286).
  • Corpus-wide marker-vs-folio sweep queued to the next audit Citations phase.

Merleau-Ponty, Inédits II (1947–1949) (Conférences en Amérique, Dalissier ed.)

  • Raw (raw/datalab-output-Conférences en Amérique, notes de cours et autres textes Inédits II (1947-1949) (Maurice Merleau-Ponty).md): {N} markers are PDF pages at +4 from printed folios (printed = {N} + 4), derived 2026-08-18 from the volume's own SOMMAIRE at twelve anchors spanning printed 31→343 (INTRODUCTION 31 = {27}; PPH plan 113 = {109}; Leçons intro 119 = {115}; Monde oriental 125 = {121}; Monde grec 129 = {125}; Problèmes 191 = {187}; Note Hegel/Sartre 199 = {195}; Marxisme et philosophie marxiste 201 = {197}; Mexico III opening 313 = {309}; Qu'est-ce que l'existentialisme 315 = {311}; Antinomies de l'histoire 337 = {333}; Méta. Religion 343 = {339}). Uniform at every anchor measured, but derive per-locator per the standing rule.
  • Trap recorded (2026-08-18, OPS-020 §6 item 4): two wiki citations (PPH p. 128; Ponge Mexico III p. 318) had read the markers as printed folios and were used as calibration points by the 2026-07-28 jury-calibration refuter and initially by the OPS-020 sweep — circular, since the wiki's Inédits II locator column carries the systematic −4 undercount from ingest. The Capital-formula working locator is Mexico III printed 340 (raw 5049); the PPH donc-variant printed 183 (raw 2873).
  • Extraction-note/source-page corpus sweep (the whole Inédits II locator column) routed to the next audit Citations phase; the source page's own "PPH p. 195" / "Sig. p. 404" cites show the same undercount.

Mendoza-Canales (ed.), Merleau-Ponty: Institution—Ontology—Politics (2026)

  • Raw (raw/Merleau-Ponty- Institution-Ontology-Politics.md): {N} markers at +10 above printed folios (printed = {N} − 10), derived 2026-08-18 at six checkpoints (chs. 1/2/4/5/9/10/11/12 + Index) by the OPS-020 revol sweep seat. Distinct from the MP&CP 2019 raw's +12 — do not conflate the two collections.

Merleau-Ponty, Adventures of the Dialectic (English, Bien)

  • Raw (raw/datalab-output-Adventures of the Dialectic (Maurice Merleau-Ponty).md): {N} markers at +23 above printed folios (e.g. printed 207 = {230}), derived 2026-08-18 at four checkpoints via Pagan's own footnotes (OPS-020).

Husserl, At the Limits of Phenomenology (Lawlor ed.)

  • Raw (raw/Husserl at the Limits of Phenomenology-Maurice Merleau-Ponty; (edited by Leonard Lawlor.md): {N} markers at +45 above printed folios (printed 66 = {111}), derived 2026-08-18 at three TOC checkpoints (OPS-020).

Merleau-Ponty, Institution and Passivity (English, Lawlor/Massey)

  • Raw (raw/institution-and-passivity-course-notes-from-the-college-de-france- 1954-1955.md): {N} markers at +37 in the course text (printed 13 = {50}; 22 = {59}; 26–7 = {63}) but +33 in the endnotes block (n. 17 → p. 80; n. 24 → p. 81) — a real per-locator break inside one volume; never blanket-offset (derived 2026-08-18, OPS-020). The raw also carries bold **[N]** PRINTED-folio markers inline in some stretches (e.g. [82] at raw 810) — two marker systems coexist; identify which one a locator uses first.

Merleau-Ponty, Signs (English, McCleary)

  • Raw (raw/Signs (Maurice Merleau-Ponty).md): {N} markers ≈ +25 above printed folios ({79} → printed 54; {84} → 59; essay-boundary TOC pins at {64} → 39 and {109} → 84), observed 2026-08-18 by two OPS-020 seats independently; treat as per-locator until TOC-swept. Known trap: raw-marker values quoted as "Signs p. N" (the p. 80 case on the malraux-schema entry).

Merleau-Ponty, Investigations into the Literary Use of Language (ILUL)

  • Raw (raw/datalab-output-Investigations into the Literary Use of Language - Maurice Merleau-Ponty.md): inline /[N](…)/ folio markers are start-of-folio (established by mid-word splits at [115] and [165]); text immediately before a marker belongs to the previous folio (verso forms like [166]v occur). The consent-to-himself trap: text just before /[138](XIII3)/ is folio [137]v, not [138] (2026-08-18, OPS-020).

Saint Aubert, "Être et chair chez Merleau-Ponty" (2023, Ágora Filosófica)

  • Raw (raw/etre et chair chez Merleau-Ponty.md): {N} block markers ≈ printed − 4, i.e. printed ≈ {N} + 4 (block {7} ≈ printed p. 11; article spans pp. 5–35 per the HAL record at raw 17; {1} = article p. 5). Provisional, two checkpoints (2026-08-18); derive per-locator.

Heidegger, GA 11 (Identität und Differenz, datalab)

  • Raw (raw/datalab-output-IDENTITAT-UND-DIFFERENZ-corrected.md): {N} PDF markers at +12 above printed folios per five TOC pins (Die Kehre {125}=113; Grundsätze {137}=125; Richardson {155}=143; Kojima {165}=153; Nachwort {175}=163) — but the volume also preserves standalone printed-folio header lines in the Die Kehre stretch (raw 2099–2166, "116"–"122"), and the two oracles disagree by ~1–3 pages there: never apply the +12 volume-wide; prefer the in-text folio headers where they survive (2026-08-18, OPS-020). Richardson letter = printed 143–152; printed 155 falls inside the Kojima letter. Extraction-note Third-Part locators mix conventions — routed to audit Citations.

Merleau-Ponty, Sense and Non-Sense (English, Dreyfus/Dreyfus)

  • Raw (raw/Sense and non-sense.md): {N} markers ≈ +29 above printed folios ({94} → printed 65; {92} opens Hegel's Existentialism at printed 63 per the TOC line 296), single-region derivation (2026-08-18); per-locator.
