Phase 3 — motifs.md Delta Update (2026-05-16)

Run framing. Fourteenth full audit, subsequent-run mode. motifs.md Phase 3 updates the existing index (per AUDIT_PLAN.md §Subsequent audit runs); does not rebuild it.

Corpus state. 57 sources / 59 extraction notes at run start (excluding chunked sub-extractions). Previous Phase 3 update: 2026-05-07 (47 sources / 48 extraction notes).

Threshold-calibration check (Step 3.1.5)

Scaled-window calculation: at 57 sources, the proportionally-scaled corpus-HUB window per AUDIT_PLAN Step 3.1.5 is (6, 15) × 57/29 ≈ (11.8, 29.5) HUBs, or in the 2026-05-07-decision-frame (10, 25) × 57/47 ≈ (12.1, 30.3) HUBs.

Decision. Retain the 5+/3+ thresholds. The 33 HUB-section count is 3 above the upper bound of the scaled window (30.3) but 2 below the formal re-test trigger (35) recorded in motifs.md header from the 2026-05-07 sweep. Next 1-2 ingests adding HUB attestations should trip the trigger; the next audit run should perform a full threshold re-test. No threshold change this run.

New-source motif integration

The ingest workflow's Step 6a cross-source motif check successfully integrated the three new MP sources (SnS / ILUL / PbP) inline into existing motif entries during their respective ingests. This audit's Phase 3 confirms the integration and applies two missed updates.

Updates applied this Phase 3 (2026-05-16):

  1. coherent deformation (line 327) — added ILUL 2026 HUB attestation: L6 [70] marginal explicit "coherent deformation" usage + the conquering language operation as the operative concept making coherent-deformation work at the language level (CS [9], L2 [29]–[30], L6 [63]). Genealogy block updated to show 1953 Thursday MSME (perceptual) + 1953 Monday ILUL (linguistic) + 1953-54 PbP (linguistic) as the trio of 1953 middle-term anchors. Cross-link to forthcoming [[claims#conquering-language-as-coherent-deformation-of-language]] candidate.

  2. antithetic critique of Sartre (line 238) — added ILUL 2026 HUB attestation: Appendix [165]–[168]v as the densest 1953 anchor in the language register, including the "Stendhal's naturalness ... resolves practically" parenthetical at [165], the a-focalism coinage at [168]v, and the praxis / transparency operative pair. The 1953 practical resolution precedes the 1955 political break by 2 years. Cross-link to forthcoming [[claims#stendhal-naturalness-practically-resolves-sartre-antithetic]] candidate.

Single-source HUB-candidates queued (not yet motif entries):

These ILUL 2026 HUB-candidate motifs do not yet have a second-source attestation that would meet the 2+ sources requirement for an motifs.md entry. They are tracked in their wiki concept pages but not promoted to the corpus motif index:

  • conquering language: ILUL L6 / CS / L2 (concept page created at ingest); cross-source candidate when Signs 1960 or PoW 1950-52 attest. Currently anchored only in ILUL Monday course.
  • engagement through disengagement / unaffiliated engagement: ILUL L14 thesis; cross-source candidate when AdV 1955 attestation lands or earlier text is found.
  • action of unveiling vs action of governing: ILUL closing thesis; the wiki has the [[action-of-unveiling-vs-action-of-governing]] page anchored to AdV 1955, with ILUL L14-15 anticipating it (per Phase 1 gap report finding). Single-source-extended; would become 2-source motif if integrated.
  • Stendhal's naturalness as practical resolution: ILUL Appendix [165]; cross-source candidate when V&I or Sartre-Beauvoir-1955-debate attestation lands.
  • a-focalism: ILUL Appendix [168]v MP coinage; single attestation; new concept page recommended (per Phase 2 silent-key scan).

  • hauntology-in-MP / phantom register: still single-source (M-C 2026); awaiting second non-M-C-2026 anchor (per wiki/.audit/next-actions.md row 2). PbP / ILUL did not attest. Flag continues.

Mechanical aggregation note

scripts/aggregate-motifs.py was run and reported 415 distinct motif keys across 68 extraction-note motif sections (the script also reads the 5 CHUNK-* sub-extractions of mp-1942-sob, hence 68 vs 59). The script's output is currently too noisy for direct use — its BRIDGE-CANDIDATE bucket contained 29 numbered-list items (e.g., ### 1., ### 2.) from extraction-note ordered lists rather than motif key headers. Tooling note: the script's motif-key extractor mis-segments numbered list items; a future audit run should fix the regex. Not in scope for this run.
