Phase 4 — Major-Volume Integration Sweep (2026-05-16)

Run framing. Fourteenth full audit, subsequent-run mode. Per AUDIT_PLAN.md §Subsequent audit runs, Phase 4 generalized to "integration of any major-volume ingest since the last audit" — i.e., single-ingest that added 5+ new concept pages.

Major-volume ingests since 2026-05-09 close:

  • MP 1948 Sense and Non-Sense (SnS): 2026-05-09 ingest; 14+ new concept pages + 2 new entities. Themes: existentialism, Hegel, Sartre, Marxism, perception, Cézanne, painting-and-language, political philosophy 1945-48.
  • MP 2026 Investigations into the Literary Use of Language (ILUL, MP 1953 trans. Smyth 2026): 2026-05-16 ingest; 6+ new concept pages + ~5 new entities. Themes: literary expression, Stendhal, Sartre/Parain, conquering language, indirect language, sublimation, naturalness.
  • MP 2020 Le problème de la parole (PbP, MP 1953-54): 2026-05-16 ingest; 1 new concept page ([[innere-sprachform]]) + 7 new entities. Themes: Saussure, aphasia, child language, parole-parlante-parlée, écart, diacritical sense, sensible ideas.

Sweep methodology

Per AUDIT_PLAN M3 cap: review at most 15 pages in depth. Pre-2026-05-09 concept pages that intersect the three new sources' thematic ranges are the candidate pool. The cap is intentionally tight; broader integration is the ingest workflow's job at ingest time, not the audit's.

Findings

Strong finding: ingest workflow was thorough

Grep-based identification of pre-2026-05-09 pages mentioning the new sources, intersected with updated: dates, returned only 1 page that flagged a real integration gap (out of ~12 candidates considered). The other 11 candidates either:

  • Were already updated at ingest time (the 142 pages with updated: since 2026-05-09 cover the bulk of integration touchpoints);
  • Reference the new sources from prior ingest cross-pointers (the donation-en-chair, cristallisation, wild-being, etc. cluster — these list PbP/SnS in their sources: field but the page body was integrated at ingest cross-reference time, not later);
  • Were single-attestation-cross-references (HUB-candidate motifs from new sources that don't yet meet the 2-source motif threshold).

This is consistent with the density-bias diagnosis (2026-05-16) that flagged the wiki's ingest workflow as the most-articulated and most-thorough of the seven workflows. Phase 4's integration sweep work has been largely pre-paid by ingest Step 6a (cross-source motif check) and Step 7 (Self-Review).

Update applied this Phase 4

  1. [[antithetic-critique-of-sartre]] — added the new section "The 1953 ILUL Anchor — Densest Pre-1955 Mobilization" surfacing the Stendhal parenthetical at ILUL Appendix [165], the a-focalism coinage at [168]v, and the praxis/transparency operative pair. The trajectory 1945 (Battle over Existentialism, philosophical) → 1953 (ILUL Appendix, practical) → 1955 (Adventures, political) is now visible end-to-end on the page. Three new typed connections: densely anchored in 1953 by ILUL Appendix; applied to now anchors three time-points on Sartre entity; shares mechanism with [[a-focalism]] and [[stendhalian-naturalness]] (forthcoming). updated: bumped 2026-05-09 → 2026-05-16; sources: extended with ILUL.

Updates deferred to Phase 8 Step 8.9 (cite-back) or next audit

These two cross-references are valuable but lower-priority; their thematic anchors are already present on the target pages and the Phase 4 cap is honoured by deferring them to the Phase 8 cite-back stage:

  1. [[wild-being]] — should anchor the PbP Λόγος du monde sensible attestation (PbP body raw 2564; Notes de travail [68v] raw 4956) as the 1953-54 primary anchor for V&I's "ontology of brute Being—and of logos" project. Currently the page cites Nature Course 3's "logos of the sensible world" (1959-60) as the closest predecessor; PbP attestation pushes the anchor back 5-6 years and adds Greek-script gesture. Defer to Phase 8 Step 8.9 if the silent-key Phase 2 finding ([[logos-of-the-sensible]] stub) lands.

  2. [[schneider-case]] — currently references PbPassiv (the 2010 Institution and Passivity passivity-course text by the same abbreviation) but does NOT yet reference the 2026-05-16 PbP attestation at PbP [80(4)] continuing the Schneider case as "S" in the 1953-54 course. The 1953-54 reading is structurally relevant — Schneider becomes paradigmatic for the diacritical-sense apparatus PbP develops. Defer to Phase 8 Step 8.9.

No-action: pages adequately integrated at ingest time

Calibration verdict

Phase 4's role in the audit cycle is changing as the ingest workflow matures: at corpus size 57 sources / 480 pages, the ingest workflow's cross-reference discipline is doing most of the integration work in real time. Phase 4 in subsequent audits should be expected to find ~1-3 integration gaps per new major-volume ingest, not the 11+ that the 2026-04-25 first-run audit and the 2026-05-05 Saint Aubert sweep surfaced. The density-bias diagnosis (2026-05-16) is reinforced: extension (ingest) is well-articulated; the audit's densification role is increasingly residual.

This finding does not mean Phase 4 should be deprecated. It means Phase 4's signal is now more diagnostic of ingest-workflow drift than of integration backlog: if a future Phase 4 finds 10+ gaps from a single major-volume ingest, the ingest workflow needs review, not the affected pages.

Recommendations for Phase 7

Pages potentially affected by this run's findings (for Phase 7 confidence cross-reference):
