Plato-cohort citation integrity spot-check — audit v1.9 Phase 6 (2026-06-23)
Run: v1.9 Plato-cohort comprehensive audit · branch claude/audit-2026-06-23
Method: Faul-fabrication sweep on the main thread (grep), then 12 citation-verifier subagents (opus 1M, read-only) over a 32-citation sample weighted to Stephanus accuracy, cross-tradition cousin loci, and audit-produced content. Each citation traced to the raw Cooper/Hutchinson Complete Works, an extraction note, or a source-page Key Passage. Verdicts: PASS / UNCERTAIN / FAIL.
Result
| Verdict | Count |
|---|---|
| PASS | 31 |
| UNCERTAIN | 1 |
| FAIL | 0 |
| Fabrications | 0 |
Pass rate 97%. The spot-check PASSES — per the plan (0 FAILs / 0 fabrications), no escalation to a full check. The single UNCERTAIN is a documented source-gap, not a citation error.
Faul fabrication sweep (mandatory) — CLEAN
Grep across the whole wiki for the fabricated pattern (Painter's Courage / JBSP 55:2 / Faul…2024 / …2024…Faul): 0 assertions in concept/source/entity/question pages. Every hit sits in an audit-record position — prior .audit/ reports, plus the caleb-faul entity page's and the Faul extraction note's citation-hygiene caution (which warns against the fabrication for future maintainers, per General Rule 16, naming the real paper "Ontologically Interactive Painting"). No HALT. The real paper is present.
The one UNCERTAIN — claims#republic-cave-aletheia-orthotes (Heidegger source-gap)
.extraction-heidegger-1964-end-of-philosophy.mdandaletheia.md. - The Republic loci PASS: 515d (the freed prisoner "sees more correctly"), 508e (the Good "gives truth to the things known") both verified in raw.
- UNCERTAIN leg: Heidegger's essay "Platons Lehre von der Wahrheit" itself is not in
raw/, so the specific reading (the Cave as the alētheia → orthotēs hinge) rests on the standard secondary account, not a raw anchor. This is a known source-gap, already reflected in the cousin claim's contested/blocked status (it stayscandidate, promotion blocked — coherence report §A). Not a fabrication; the verifiable legs are accurate. Action: none beyond recording the gap; if Heidegger's Wegmarken essay is later ingested, the leg becomes verifiable.
Sample composition + verdicts (all PASS unless noted)
Stephanus accuracy (Plato source pages, verified against raw Cooper) — 22 PASS:
- Phaedo: 72e–77a (Recollection / the Equal-itself), 94b–e (soul rules & opposes body; "Endure, my heart"), 69c (purification = wisdom). (Verifier caught that a second "Endure my heart" at raw L29690 is in the Republic, not the Phaedo — the Phaedo locus is correct.)
- Timaeus: 48e–53c (receptacle / triton genos / bastard reasoning), 52d ("being, space, becoming — three distinct things", exact quote).
- Sophist: 257b–c (not-being as to heteron, otherness not contrariety), 256d–259b (not-X as positive being).
- Republic: 514a–517b (cave/sun), 508e (the Good).
- Symposium: 210a–211c (ladder / Beauty itself), 202a–204b (metaxu / love-as-lack).
- Philebus 23e–26d (peras on apeiron); Statesman 283c–285c (to metrion / two arts of measurement).
- Parmenides 132a–133a (Third Man), 130e–131e (participation dilemma); Meno 82e–86b (slave-boy), 97e–98a (true opinion "tied down").
- Phaedrus 274b–276a (writing-critique), 274e–275b (Theuth–Thamus / pharmakon); Gorgias 465a (technē vs empeiria).
- Laws 716c ("God… is the measure"); Apology 21d (wisdom-of-ignorance), 23b ("the god" Apollo).
Audit-produced content (~20% of sample; Phase 3/4 writes) — 5 PASS:
- Republic 473c–d (Phase-4 Key Passage) — the philosopher-king quote verified verbatim in raw. (Confirms the Phase-4 fix that resolved 3 dangling claim citations is accurate.)
homoiosis-theoi(new page) — Theaetetus 176b ("becoming as like God as possible… just and pious, with understanding") + 176e–177a (two patterns / paradeigmata). PASS.- Timaeus 29b (Phase-4 bullet) — cosmos as eikōn of the intelligible Living Thing (paired 92c "image of the intelligible Living Thing"). PASS.
- fire HUB Letter VII 341c–d (Phase-3 motif weight-shift) — "born in the soul… like light flashing forth when a fire is kindled." PASS.
Cross-tradition cousin loci (the non-Plato sides) — 3 (2 PASS + the 1 UNCERTAIN above):
- Hegel bestimmte Negation (WdL Einleitung, GW 21) — "a new concept, the higher, richer." PASS.
- Hegel Maß / Knotenlinie — qualitative change as a nodal leap. PASS.
- Heidegger cave/aletheia — UNCERTAIN (source-gap, above).
Caveat (R3 — biased sampling)
This sample is biased toward the new Plato cohort, the audit-produced writes, and the cross-tradition seams — the highest-risk loci. A clean result here is evidence that fabrication is not concentrated where we'd expect it, and that the Plato Stephanus scheme (new this corpus) is being cited accurately. It is not a certification of the unsampled remainder of the 866-page corpus. The Stephanus scheme verified cleanly across 22 loci spanning major/mid dialogues — a real positive signal for the new citation register.
